If they would have just used the iphone 8 plus’s body instead
It would have solved the biggest issue i.e. battery life
Apple could have swapped out the telephoto camera for an ultrawide
And the display size would have been fine to use
And they could have priced it for 20 dollars more maybe…449$ for 64gigs!!

Maybe Apple originally planned to refresh the SE after 4 years just like they did with the original SE and 2020. However, for the phone to stay relevant till 2024, they figured 5G had to be added. So they just did that with zero effort at redesigning.

Here’s my take on it : they could have achieved that economy of scale with an iPhone 8 plus body as well. That would have given it 2 cameras and a better battery. Or they could have gone with an XR/11 body for a larger screen in a smaller body with 2 cameras. It’s just that they don’t want to cannibalize the higher end phone sales. They need to understand it’s getting very tricky to buy this iPhone with such a tiny body at this price. And on top of that, it’s 43,990 in India. That’s almost 600 dollars for a budget conscious market. We can get an iqoo 9, or a moto x30 or Vivo z60 for the same price. Not to mention a samsung s21 Fe or a straight up s21 during sales, which do come often with Samsung phones.
Last thing, iPhone 12 mini was selling @ around 35k during October sales ( still goes on sale at around 40k), and even the iPhone 12 was @ 47k ( getting offers frequently for sale @ around 50k) .
I would much rather prefer the iPhone 12 models at this price point.
Summary: Apple needs to rethink it’s pricing policy, especially in India if they want to capture a bigger market share here. Absurd pricing.
