Apple will update their SE line once the main IPhones go through another design refresh. If they update their SE line now to the most recent version it would cut into sales of their main phones. Also it would tel people that their current design is “budget” and they would want it for cheaper.
Once they redesign the IPhone the SE will get the XR or 13 body.

I’m wondering what the next version will be, which old model will they use? My guess is they’ll want it to last quite a long time, so they might skip ahead to the 11? Assuming they’ll release it in about 2 years time.

I think the iPhone SE is definitely in the top 3 of best lower end phones. The only things that I think should be added is a larger battery, and a new design. The recycled iPhone 7/8 form factor is a little outdated in my opinion. Overall, it’s still an amazing affordable smartphone.

I think you just about nailed it. Budget IPhone for people who want iOS on a budget, and/or with home button. In a world with the 12/13 Mini, I think it fits in perfectly.

For me much, much better choise would be. Body and screen from X series, something like HR (amoled would be nice, but IPS withour those bezels is still miles ahead of this) and a14 or 13 bionic.
