I think a lot of the people who get mad that this still has the iPhone 8 design, smaller screen, smaller battery… are the same ones who would get the 13 pro max. They fail to realize that this phone isn’t for them, i.e. probably not for most avid tech lovers who watch this channel and other tech content. This is for the people entering the iPhone market, those looking for a phone on a budget, and those who like small phones. Also no one is forcing anyone to buy an SE 🙂

They’ll recycle a more recent design when the flagship line switches to a newer design. Maybe when we get a smaller notch then the SEs will switch to an 11-like form factor.

I see absolutely no reason why you would not just buy an older iPhone pre-owened. Better specs, better phone. And I don’t see how just because it’s an iPhone means it’s a good recommendation. It’s a trash old phone and will only get more dated in 3,4,5 years time. People won’t want it by then as it’ll be so far behind the times and will upgrade anyway

Given that it is rumored that the iPhone Mini will be discontinued I’d like it if they brought it back and rebranded it as the next iteration of the SE. To me, it would mirror the original SE in that it would be a smaller, more pocket and one handed friendly iPhone. They could lower the specs in order to keep it at a decent price but I think evolving the SE to what the Mini is now would be a great next step for Apple’s budget phone moving forward.

Honestly I think this device is targeted towards such a large market that we as high tech consumers don’t think of it enough to understand it.
It’s not just grandparents, young children, and lower price for people who are looking for a budget phone. This has a much larger market, it’s companies that have employees who require a device that lasts for as long as possible, it’s very maintainable, serviceable, reliable, familiar and cost effective over time, another great bit is that the phone number remains the same between employee turnover where they don’t need to update every person of X new employee phone number (this is really important for businesses too), think of all security companies, hospital workers, schools, childcare, transportation / private driving services, you get my point…
And in my opinion, this is why this phone is designed this way in my mind.

By using the same unibody they allow for greater repairability, more parts are the same, economies of scale play a huge factor, their factories won’t have to make new moulds and update machinery, recyclability.
Meanwhile the price of the device can be brought down and for some companies a device $100 more expensive when getting a new device for a whole fleet it’s a big deal especially considering it’s longevity.

The unibody shell must remain the same for those reasons, upgrading the internal modules is easier.
So I’m guessing here that the unibody will only change when the current iPhone X unibodies are the “old” one and we have a new one in the flagships, and the cycle continues.
