This review felt a bit “wishy-washy”. Like I can imagine you making the argument “whats the point of putting a new phone out if you’re not trying to get people to buy it.” Its not like apple sells iphones to new phone users…they sell it MOSTLY to previous iphone users. The Iphone ecosystem, branding, value is all centered around the hype of the “new iphone”—thats the same reason why people line up, people pay the premium price….for the latest and greatest.

To now say “buying an iphone is like buying a car…you are only supposed to upgrade every 4-5 generations.” is a bit disingenuous imo. You have to acknowledge that Apple has NOT operated with that moto ever…they, if anything, are the MOST AGGRESSIVE company when it comes to trying to force people to upgrade to the latest iphone. See history of slowing down phones, restricting right to repair, ending support for older iphones at genius bar etc.

So when they come out with a lackluster iphone, we are supposed to believe — “oh this is just another iteration of the iphone…its not meant for you because the upgrades arent that significant” ? Sorry, but that’s a fairweather copout. I hardly imagine anyone is ready to say that about the Pixel 6 if it came out and was just like the pixel 5. So be fair, don’t force this very weak narrative that apple suddenly doesn’t make phones to be upgraded to. Just my 2 cents.

The only thing keeping me from going iPhone is that stupid lightning port. I have a macbook air, huawei matebook, samsung S20, galaxy buds, and theyre all using type C. I am not gonna bring a separate cable just for one device.
