Apple lost it when the world needed graphic power and they still were in a computing space.
At the very least this Mac Pro should’ve come with the unbinned 76 core GPU
“No upgradability”. 6 PCIe ports?
Steve Jobs unveiled the first Mac I ever owned the 1984 Apple Macintosh computer with at $2,500.00 US price tag. Today adjusted for inflation cost of that original 1984 Apple McIntosh would be $7,299.40 in April. 2023. Get over the price of the 2023 M series Mac Pro’s.
So the price of the base 2023 Mac Pro is not that much for the technology you are getting. Thing is only purchase if your already have the need, or my at some time have the need to add expansion cards.
This is my view on the Mac Pro. Only people/companies that should be purchasing the NEW M series Mac Pro are ones that need to use cards/devices that go into PCI expansion slots. So in sound production if you have an Apple Intel Mac Pro with PCI cards for production, This would be a very good investment if it is going to improve your work flow.
Looking to start a video production house, or local broadcast station? Feel a rack mount version of the M series Mac Pro along with the existing, and any new hardware, and software looks like it could be an over the moon solution.
There are PC SoC designs with upgradeable (commodity) ram and storage. That’s what apple should have done with this. Then, i would have bought one.
Luke “the money maker” Miani! 💰
I think stop comparing to the 50 grand 2019 model, that was full of memory and GPU cards that this can’t have.
PCI E cards for low latency audio recording with multiple instruments is the reason I went with the Mac Pro. I would have gladly went with the Mac Studio but I was experiencing audio drop outs and hiccups using MADI and a sonnet PCI E box before. This is just my own experience though.
Great video…if I could afford it i would buy it in a second, great machine despite its short comings (upgradability) uses for it would be (for me) endless, if only I had the funds. Keep up the good work Luke your videos are awesome.
My old 2010 Mac Pro is still kicking. No need to “upgrade” to this new MacPro.
Snazzy Labs put out a video about the New Mac Pro and he pointed out that many companies that would have developed an expansion card that would go into the enclosure more or less have released a thunderbolt version of their products. What truth there is behind that not sure. But it makes sense. The 2019 Mac Pro was released exactly 3.5 years ago.
That highly depends on the type of PCIe cards that you can install. Yes, GPUs are not supported, what about storage? Can you install a PCIe get4 SSD into one of the slots and get more storage? How about audio accelerators like AVID Pro Tool? How about high speed fiber-optic card? How about ANY 3rd party extension card whose creators can write drivers for using the driver toolkit? Yes, it is not for you, but calling it dumb?
is it possible to test some cards? ssd cards, IO cards etc
at 9:20 It’s not even for the audio people, we now use external interfaces (thunderbolt or even USB), since 5 or 6 years at least, and there’s not much offer for audio PCIe cards on the market today. I guess you can buy new 2 or 3 of these today. Not much. On the other hand, If you have a lot of old and slightly out of date audio PCIe cards you would absolutely want to stuff in a new overpriced computer and you don’t want to spend little money in a thunderbolt-to-PCIe rack, yes, this machine could be the solution, but, well… Let’s say, some fishes can fly but this is not common 😁
Na man should have spent way more because this version is way weaker than a full spec one.
The 15k one is miles better trust me I am from the internet.
Just wondering if it would be possible in the future to run linux on it and use a PCIE GPU 🤔. Or maybe one day run windows ARM and do the same. Or patch a GPU through to a virtual machine idk just thinking haha 😜
Since there isn’t 3rd party GPU support, why can’t Apple come out with a System on a Card. Put basically a M2 Ultra on a PCI-e card. I’d buy that and fill it with a set of 4-6 Systems on a Card for a massive GPU rendering box with Redshift. There were rumors of a “compute module,” what ever happened to that?
This is great. I love the ending too. I miss upgrading my Macs, but it’s a new world. That’s why I also own a PC.
I certainly would not buy one Luke. I like the Mac Pro but the issues you identified would certainly turn me away. I would rather get the Mac Studio……. Your insight on all things mac is certainly beneficial to all of us…
I am an audio engineer that uses avid audio cards. This is a box I want/need. I allso think the little box with the computer can be swapped.
