They are extremely greedy. That company now has a little over $2.7 billion in cash in the bank. But it is never enough for them. I have a very bitter sweet Love and hate relationship with them because of this. And especially because a lot of people don’t realize that the company no longer innovate. All they make are small improvements to separate people from their hard earned cash. If you think about it, every single product that exists today at Apple, were all products that were created under Steve’s guidance. They literally have not introduced a single groundbreaking product since Steve died.

Thermals … try aiming an air conditioner outlet vent into the m2 studio and try again. The purpose for this to exist is for people who actually work and require specific PCI cards to do so… You make youtube content… You are just fine on a mac from 2012.

I just spent $395 on a 2015 2.5 Quad 15″ MacBook Pro will Duel GPU’s. Specified as “Excellent” on Back Market. Last time I purchased on that website, I bought a “Good” iPhone X and it looked new. I think buying this model in excellent condition is a good investment. It’ll be replacing a mid 2012 MacBook Pro with 13″ Non Retina, Dual i5. It still runs great.

This could’ve been a really good Mac Pro if Apple had custom CPU/GPU options you can interchange with.
For example, when M3 Ultra releases or M2 “Extreme” you can swap in and out that silicon chip. Instead of having to release a whole new Mac each year, just the individual components that users can “trade in” and swap in and out between.

If it’s going to be stuck with Apple silicon, at least give us post-upgrade options.

The fact you can’t put NVidia cards is a nonstarter. Can’t add third party RAM or SSDs. Plus the starting price.

Luke I agree with you. It is so unapple like I actually thought when they were going to announce this they would do the Apple thing and say you can’t configure this. With up to 4 Is M2 ultra Soc And while upgrade Ram would be good at that point the fact that each Chip has up to 192gb ram You could have easily then come figure it with the max 768. So it really boggles my mind. That Apple did not go down that route with the Mac pro and allow that type of configuration now. It would be very interesting if Apple at some wait maybe decided to allow you to use a dedicated GPU Cause it would be really amazing to see what kind of performance you would get doing high end gaming with a high end g p u

I disagree. The issue is that Apple Silicon is not good enough for real professionals. Architecture change messed up the code for musicians. Lack of a competent GPU means that no developer would go Mac because nVidia is still the best in the world. No ECC memory is something that niche but pro users and enterprises may still benefit from. The new Mac Pro should at the very least allow people to install nVidia or AMD GPUs.

It will gain a lot more sense just by supporting custom graphics card via software with drivers or so (if they are not limited by the PCI-E bandwidth), but the non expandible RAM for the target of this machine is a real shame. Nice video as always, the idea of the POV for the unboxing was great :]

8K for a machine without a decent GPU and lousy upgradability? And look at those non standard NVME slots… this is literally a big 🖕 to your hard earned cash. Good luck with it! Apple just begins drawing up a design, to go at any cost to use NON industry standard components which they protect till they get obsolete… At least this thing has cooling, so it does not throttle when checking your emails lol

I think to prove to be worth of the price tab, Apple should assure that in few years this computer was designed to be upgradable to a new version by the processor, board, everything. That should be a reasonable reason to distinguish this product among the others and justify the investment. I believe with the unique virtue, a lot people and companies would invest in this product. There will be no loss, since the upgrade hardware will also come from Apple.

Please try an Nvidia card with CUDA on it and see it it can works. Then it has a justification. I could add that the M2 series is perfect for the trashcan mac….
