Ein guter Wurf den Apple gemacht hat . Für Leistungshungrige gemacht . Ich selber bin mit der Kombi 14“ mac Book und Mac Studio Max immer noch bestens bedient.
I think the Mac Pro would be justified if it had higher clock speeds for the CPU and GPU. That would have given it a good performance bump over the Mac Studio.
So much packaging for nothing and lack of charger in the phone box, wow
There ist one reason.. PCI Cards, if you need those, then it is the only option. If you do not need PCI cards, a maxed out Studio ist the better option. It is that simple 😉
How does it compare to a similarly priced windows machine?
Are you keeping it or returning it?
I totally agree with the thrust of this video – THIS Mac Pro should not exist. I had a 2008 Mac Pro and kept it going by adding more memory, SSD storage and changing the graphics card. (It also kept my office warm in the winter). What can you do with this new Mac Pro that you cannot do with a Mac Studio? In reality, the Mac Studio should not exist either. It should have been a Mac Mini but Apple did not want its ‘entry-level’ Mac to also be its high-end Mac. I think Apple has gone off the rails in recent times (again). Tim Cook is not the right CEO. He is a logistics person not a designer nor a visionary. Apple needs to be rescued, once more.
As soon as the new MacPro was announced, I ruled it out. There is nothing in this machine that can justify such a price. This MacPro “Fabergé” will never replace my current 11 year old one. Apple takes its customers for fools.
if I could put 8-10 3,5 high capacity drives inside, this form factor would make sense as all in one server / workstation.
You buy one because you need PCIe slots.
We really have no idea why this machine was built, but Apple didn’t get to be the biggest in the world by making stupid moves, although they certainly HAVe made some. Let’s wait a few months and see what shows up for options that might make this the beast we expected.
Things are simple, apple just decided to be on the glorified cell phone road, locking its users on products that can’t be upgraded nor used after its “EOL” I’ve used macs for most of my life, from powermacs to Intel imacs, but after Apple tried to lock the imac under hidden upgradable memory, locked hard drives and other silly “configurations” I knew that I had to travel to the DIY intel/AMD world…and I am not even talking about the MacBook, apple is just trying to milk its users knowing that current processors are quite sufficient to manage current and future software in most scenarios, so they just try to milk and lock users…
11:33 sounds like a stomping clown shoe 🤡
It’s not a “silly” product. The Mac Pro sells a lot units, it’s just a small percentage. There are a lot of businesses that need the power of the Pro. Medical research, CAD/CAM, architecture, creation of movies (think Disney), audio work, etc. They also need cards. Now, there are a lot of units sold here even though it is a small percentage. The problem with this model is that it only has 192GB of RAM. That means unless you need the cards, you don’t buy the Pro. It still leaves the market that truly needs the Pro, lacking. They need all the RAM they can get. Yes, I used to work in one of those markets.
I am tempted to believe that Apple has a vision for a future Mac Pro in the works but thisiteration was more of a checkbox item on the list of things to do. It seems very much a stop gap item.
However I can envisage a scenario where a major studio might drop such an item into a worlflow of mac studios for sound processing etc. I am thinking of the documentary around how the makers of the latest Dune films were so heavily invested in the soundtracks and overall atmosphere of the movie depends heavily upon the sound.
that extra 3000 on the price tag is unimportant to a studio……they wont care about such a small sum when movies are costing 100s of millions to create.
They should have given it tiered memory – then you could run slower DDR5 in addition to the on substrate memory, or even removable HBM modules with a latency penalty but that would be too logical. I’m sure if they really wanted to they could figure out how to address auxiliary GPUs as PCIe is supposed to be standardized. It would probably take the kernel team a few days.
I can buy mac studi + vision pro with 8k
The Mac Pro should had been the one option where the SOC was upgradeable.
apple keeps getting it wrong…miss upgradeables!!!!
Save your $ and just keep the upgraded 5,1. Mine runs great and does everything I asked of it.
