I wonder if they are going to eventually add GPU support…
With half the cost you could have tripled the performance on PC.
Pro customers needed an improvement over the trash can and replacements for 10+ year old cheesegraters, so Apple made the nicest expandable tower they could come up with, even as they were working on their unupgradeable ARM Soc’s, for a high business to business price. Even today, Apple is still selling refurbished trash cans that are out of OS support. What is the industry that relies on XSan or Intel Mac solutions so much that Apple made them a custom tower?
yup, this is exactly what i expected. the mac pro is now redundant.
Your performance tests are not valid because you didn’t outfit the Mac Pro with the $1000 wheels that make the machine go much faster 🙂
despite having a fixed config glorified iPhone SoC, the Mac Pro could still have had the storage shelves for SATA drives and sockets for many M.” drives not crippled by the Secure enclave which the proprietary drives are (and thus not tranferable to another machine when this one fails). So you need to buy PCIE cards that have M.2 slots on them. Big missed opportunity. Also, there are apparently 2 SATA ports, but no shelves to put drives in.
All this could have been included within what the fixed config CPU is able to do.
And whatr is not discussed is that since the built-in GPUs consume your own RAM as opposed to having their own, you need to buy a Mac with more RAM than what your actual applications need. (and I am not sure exactly how the joined CPUs share RAM (I assume in a NUMA configuration) and how the OS decides to load a app into memory on the first CPU or secon CPU’s RAM and what performance penalty entails when your app is on first CPU but the GPU it uses is on the second one.
They really shouldn’t have replaced the Intel Mac Pro.
I think it’s basically for ppl who want the thing for its industrial design. Some Apple products become collector’s items.
why are the pro users not a valid market, i’m just not getting this point. the “sure an audio engineer, or someone else BUT…” line of reasoning is nonsensical. yes, in a large studio environment, be it audio or video or a number of other large scale pro workflows it is a legitimate solution. extension cards are, believe it or not, the bread and butter of several creative industries. those extension slots are for a niche for sure but that niche is buying mac pros in bulk. for a consumer or even pro-sumer market it’s not a good look, absolutely, but when one purchaser fills up a rack room for their operations that’s no pocket money. while on the other hand it is a subreddit-worth of enthusiasts who are really up in arms about upgrading their RAM or CPU after the fact. and even if they feel grieved, their combined potential spending is likely dwarfed by even one large studio or production house. so the outrage in this video feels unearned, even made up
Only reason to get it: It’s so pretty! 🙂
Are you keeping this ? Was tough to tell your intentions.
You it is not the product that is dumb it is you that is dumb, you probably don’t even know what version of pcie it is
Apple should sell Mac Pro with 2 or 3 M2 Ultra MODULES and not just one for that ridiculous price of 8K USD!!! Instead of making Mac Pro a real Pro machine they made a product which is destined to be replaced by the Mac Studio even Mac Pro has an amazing timeless design which is kind of unwise for Apple to let go. They could do MUCH, MUCH MORE with Mac Pro and they intentionally didn’t!
The only platform where this mac pro makes any sense is in the audio producing industry where still a lot of pcie cards are used, although they are vanishing.
Goodbye MPX slots, back to using cables for auxiliary PCIe card power.
girl idc im buying this mac pro to play minecraft with shaders and you cant stop me
I could have told you that the Mac Studio is the Mac with the most….and Apple made it that way.
It is ultimately true Apple DO NOT WANT YOU TO BE GOING INSIDE THEIR MACHINES!! You buy the spec for what you need and get on using it. The new Mac Pro is a flight of fancy….go get your money back
No GPU support, no buy…
Waste of f***ing money.
1:29 that is a big big boy….that‘s what she said
This Device could have been an extension to the Mac Studio
