Thank for this vidéo. You resume what I think. Apple killed the MacPro spirit. All Macs are now Iphonable non upgradeable closed computers… will see how MacStudios will age… I am still using a more than capable MacPro 2010 – super upgraded… sad

This is such a shame. The Mac Pro is my 2nd all time favorite Mac (after the iMac). In a short span, Apple pretty much killed both of these amazing products. Guess It’s a new era for desktop Mac computers 😢

The full length PCI-Express slots are key for adding SAS RAID controllers that that can connect to an external SAS Expander JBOD enclosure which you cannot do with a Mac Studio with the same level of performance as well as the ability to upgrade the NVMe SSD storage. But the artificial lack of upgradability and expandability of the DRAM (artificial because even though supposedly “Unified” memory: the memory is supposedly external to M2 Ultra SoC and actually located under the black heatsinks on the backside of the logic board and easily been socketed or placed on DIMMs) and the proprietary nature of the NVMe SSDs instead of using standard M.2 NVMe SSDs is beyond atrocious and deserves a boycott by customers. The disallowing of 3rd party discrete GPUs as compute cards for tasks such as physics processing and A.I. is also unacceptable. Apple 🍎 once again screwed up in their greed to make components proprietary and unupgradeable for the sake of raking in maximum money up front. Shame on Apple 🍎. This is yet another reason for me to remain with Microsoft Windows on the AMD64 platform, which has gotten most things right on where Apple 🍎 has gotten most things wrong. The chassis is not outdated and a dinosaur, the decision makers at Apple 🍎 who designed the internals are.

The internal Serial ATA ports are driven by ASmedia SATA controlles according to macOS, but does bot identify as to which model. Are you able to identify which ASmedia SATA controller model is used?

I’m no apple sheep or apologist, quite the opposite. I’m just curious if you have ever considered what it would take to make the memory on this thing upgradable. Or the graphics. It’s this kind of naive coverage that really annoys me about tech YouTube. I would have more respect for you if you simply stated you weren’t going to buy it and didn’t and just let the people it’s aimed at review it rather than flooding the apple space with videos saying you don’t understand it. Clearly this video was only made so you had something out there soon after the release so you could make some money off searches for it.

Think I’d rather have the old Mac Pro 5.1, or a boosted to buggery Dell/HP Workstation for doing things that need more power than a Mac Mini daily driver…..

Not if you need the slots – especially in video production – the time and mess the work around causes integrating a studio is worth the price of a Pro – definitely not practical for you and your work flow but yes there is a high end niche market which can use the new cheese grater
