Here’s why I haven’t purchased a new Mac in the past 10 years: every Mac after the 5,1 Mac Pro and 9,1 Macbook Pro refuse to adapt to my needs and it forces me to do what Apple thinks I should do, and to add insult to injury, I have to pay a premium for it. I’m still using a fully upgraded 5,1 Mac Pro and that machine serves my needs better than any modern Mac to date. I want a new Mac as my next computer, but the only Mac I can justify is the M2 pro Mac Mini, and I still have to pay a premium for memory, and I have to buy more peripherals to match the flexibility of the 5,1. Apple is making it really hard to buy a Mac lately.

I think major production studios are the only ones that will truly benefit from the expandability of PCIE cards, which are starting to be irrelevant.

This product is just bad, I mean hahaha of course it’s an amazing machine but it’s no a Mac Pro 😢 I can understand (of course not) other higher prices of Apple products but this is a NOPE!!

If Apple had announced a machine with a tremendous power chip, I would have gladly accepted it.
With this level of performance, I would have liked to have seen a legitimate update of the MacPro with an Intel chip and keep it on the market for a few more years, which seems to be more popular with many professional users in the long run.

My 5, 1 Mac Pro was pulled from a broadcast environment and had:
– fibre networking card
– pro tools audio card
– SDI video capture card
All still relevant/necessary in that use case.

As far as processor upgrades, that gets limited by socket changes anyway.

The whole no normal NVME storage situation is unfortunate – I wonder if a PCI NVME adaptor card will be supported/tolerated?

The apple soc is great for laptops, but it limits the upgrade. I think where apple missed the boat is the updatability. Would have been nice to be able to add ram and regular ssd. Also, a way to swap the chip without changing the whole computer would be a pretty amazing feature. Let’s say you pull 2 tabs and take out the whole cpu module and put a new one for the upgradability and to save e-waste …it would makes apple looks for geniuses even if you can do that since forever on pc. I do think they had ideas that were scratched and ended up with this. The chassis looks great but since the first day the chrome bits and the legs looks cheap to me.

The only way it could make sense is if you needed to add more storage. An individual 8TB drive is more than half the price that Apple charges. It could even be less if you used separate drives, multiple 4TB or 2TB drives are less expensive than a single 8TB drive. Single PCIe to NVMe cards don’t seem to be expensive, but maybe you could find multi slot cards for not too much more?

It’s like buying and reviewing only Mercedes when their are so many other options out there. How Apple sheep get off on just focusing on one company while avoiding all others. Man your options are so limited and yet you get so excited by it. Not to mention the outrageous cost. I guess people get excited when they belong to a special club just like rich golfers do when they get together.

Nothing wrong with the Mac Pro, Apple just branded it a little awkward… it’s not a Mac Pro but a Mac Air. Lot’s of Air in the housing. And what they didn’t tell you is that the free space comes in handy to store your keyboard, mouse, and the booklet that comes with it. Maybe it can even hold a Mac Mini.

i think mac pro is for graphic designers beacause if they want to put 2 4090ti graphic cards just they can…its the only apple device allows you …mac studio it is what it is…. you can’t upgrade it….

Those gains or losses between two CPUs could just be manufacturing tolerances. You would need more samples to see if the bigger gains are there on every model. Or your Mac Studio just has a worse quality CPU that usual.

Now you can see almost every year a new and faster Mac-Silicon-Chip, an “upgradability” for “the next silicon chip” inside would have been a good choice?
Perhaps this would have been worth 3000 bucks?
