Wow, you’re not an audio studio with a bunch of DSP PCI cards or a video studio with a bunch of video ingest cards or someone who needs to run a super high-speed raid array through that PCI 4 bus and you can’t find a different use for that machine?
If you don’t have any of the specific uses for that very expensive very specialised machine, it makes no sense! Stunning!
Next, you can get the rack-mounted version and let us know that doesn’t make any sense since you don’t have a server rack. 😆
Having more built in ports is nice for those of us who don’t want to use dongles but otherwise the Mac Pro is unnecessary. For a redesigned Mac Pro Apple could just make it a similar footprint as the Studio/Mini but have it be taller to accommodate more ports. Maybe the thickness of a Studio plus a Mini?
Hey Luke, I have a 24” iMac. The one with the DVD drive built in. I won’t even surf the web anymore. What should I do with it. It would be really cool to make it in to a monitor with a DVD drive that is still working… Is there any way to do that? My wife uses a MacBook Air and it would be great if she could use this as her monitor when she is working from her desk.
It is the Mac Studio for me. All I need for my work with DaVinci Resolve Studio 18.5
Sad.. its good looking though.
why tf don’t apple create their own discrete gpu’s ? they could easily make the most powerful gpu ever
Well Luke, I’ll agree with you. It won’t take any GPU from what I’ve heard, and aside from Afterburner cards or some exotic network/storage cards assuming they even will work, there’s not much you can do with it.
So, if we buy the most expensive Mac, it could last a long time and we could upgrade it to every Mac OS?
Is it bad that I’m suprised you even get a mouse and keyboard with it
I’d like to see you have a guest that fits that targeted user and explain what they’ve done to the Mac Pro and how it makes their workflow better.
Those differences are within the margins you get just from chip variations and quality.
For all intents and purposes they are the same scores.
What is dumb is buying a computer who’s only differentiator is the PCI slots… BUT you.. unlike others don’t have any use from for the PCI slots.. THATS dumb! 🙄
The only reason that is pointless is that apple locked it down. Give us expandable nonproprietary storage. PCIE expansion
You know what’s even more crazy than the new Mac Pro? The fact we still have the terrible Magic Mouse 2! Don’t get me wrong I love the multi touch gestures and the customisation that you can achieve with a too like BTT but the ergonomics suck and the charging method is idiotic. For a company that claims to care about health and wellbeing they should really apply that to their peripherals! RSI is real and that bar of soap is not helping. Also come on apple we know you can do wireless charging well.
This is just apple trolling and just fulfilling their promise to transition all products to apple silicon which a lot of reviewers kept on mentioning…
I work in professional audio. I have a 2009 atm, and it’s showing its age. Thank-you, Luke, for doing this video. I’ve been looking at used 2019 Mac Pros; their price has started to come down. It would be a good fit for my need, as I use several pcie cards in my present setup. We’ll see, I guess.
Though I can’t afford this Mac Pro, but still feel bad for this product. Such a lazy replacement!
The only Mac Pro I was ever interested in was the Trash can, but not for the performance. I wanted it for the looks.
We all know this product is for the 0.1% who actually need an Apple Silicon mac with pcie expansion. But, if Apple has plans for custom add in cards like a card that boost the neural engine with more cores, or a card with more prores encoders and decorders. Niche upgrades like that would make this a very cool machine.
We appreciate that you spent all that money to give us an in-depth review of the new Mac PRO, but very curious… what are you now going to do with it??
