The second and third fans are always on? or will they turn on only if you have any card in PCIE?
Hey…. gotta spend that YouTube money on something..
The best benefit of this Mac Pro is its difficult to steal, pretty easy to unplug a studio and pop it in a bag, not so easy with the pro
well if you buy two big sonnet 3 PCIe cards thunderbolt extension on top of a mac studio you almost get to the price of this. let’s say that for the difference you get a couple extra I/O and that kinda sorta make sense. it feels indeed like a rushed job to end intel support; but still if you need to replace your intel mac pro that’s there. Also macbook air M1 and mac mini were designed for intel and they definitely do the job fine.
No one wanna buy if you need to spend $1000 for just upgrade 2TB SSD. which 10 times expensive than PC SSD. Apple is a bad company.
This thing is just Apple’s stupidometer for measuring the level of stupidity of its userbase. If they don’t scrap it altogether, the next release could feature some design changes, smaller, lighter and starting at 10.999 USD. This is not to say you’re stupid. No. It’s just your line of work.
will this help? imagine you pay apple 600$ in the near future for a cable that you can put it in any of the PCI ex and then the other end you can connect it to another M2 Ultra mac pro and you get M4 ultra mac. this configuration works up to 12 stations. What do you think of it now

U R Going to return that 100%
I’m a Mac Pro owner that had a 5,1 from 2010. I skipped the 6,1 trash can and now own the 7,1 Intel Mac Pro. But there is no way you could get me to buy the 8,1 Apple Silicone model! I was a super proud Mac Pro owner for the first 6 months of ownership till Apple Silicone was announced. In fact I feel crapped on by Apple for selling me a $8000 Intel Mac Pro! Internally, you know that Apple knew they were about to announce Apple Silicone when they made a big deal about the Intel Mac. They knew the price vs power point of Apple Silicone when it was announced. They should have let the Mac Pro die with the 6,1. As long as these Macs are non upgradeable I will never buy a desktop again. I will buy laptops that I place on docks and buy minimal specs to get me through about 3 years and treat them like phone upgrades. Apple will get so much less money from me over this.
An expensive tool for grating cheese even so.
Maybe this was merely released so that Apple could see what people used it for. Basically, it might be a test product. Apple might be indecisive about where to take this product and they would get a better idea of that based on how people use this. I could be wrong, of course, but it’s the explanation that makes the most sense to me.
It’s not like you can’t return it. 8k refunded YouTube money in the bank easy!
i’ll prefer a pc, and save a lot of money. I’ll stay with the mac studio
Has anyone come across a video with some of those PCIe slots engaged in some manner?
i hope apple is not going to charge you a restocking fee……
The M2 mac pro is a sad joke as, it could have been a over the top machine. I hope we see a M3 mac pro with dual or quad SOC’s. At least maybe 2019 mac pro’s prices will drop fast.
Part of me wonders if the tower is just a way to make the Studio look more affordable? I’m sticking with my iMac Pro for now and keep my fingers crossed for a truly eye-popping jump in performance.
Importantly, it also has SATA ports – could be used for some cheaper bulk storage. I’d be real interested to see if DPUs are supported on the PCIe ports, that could create some interesting opportunities.
Maybe they could make an “Apple IIgs on a card” expansion card. Useful, practical, or not, I have to agree that is a sexy computer.
I think your premise is incorrect. The chassis is perfect for people who need PCI cards and it’s built to provide the cooling for it. If you don’t need the PCI cards then you get the Mac Studio. It’s a win-win all round
