Its like apple is targeting the users who dont know anything about computers. Maybe they think: Bigger chassis -> Better performance
Seems that combining two good things doesn´t necessarily lead to a good result.
Totally waste of money 😂
This exact same product with a socketed SOC would be pretty compelling tbf
A product without a purpose. Can’t add much to it, so whats the point? They need to go back to the drawing board. Wasted opportunity
Why not just charge an extra $1000 instead of $3000? Apple makes more money, more people buy it. This is a monstrosity at that price.
I don’t think people get it.. Apple, Nike etc… are leaving Communist China for other Countries. This transition takes time to setup new production factories. Train new employees etc.. So Apple is stuck getting out what they already had in the design phase years ago..
And the people that will buy this are like Art Collectors. They buy it for none other then aesthetics. Not function..
Hi Luke
Please make a comparison on Pcie and Thunderbolt expansion options from BlackMagic AJA ATTO AViD cards
It’s most likely made for music studios and broadcast booths.
I’m wondering if Apple will have their own external GPUs for their Mac Pro lol
Thanks for sharing. Wasn’t planning to buy one, but it was nice to get your take on it.
Can you make a video about the expansions possible on this Mac ?
Hey Luke, you right and wrong. Imagine if there is a workflow utilising 1.5 TB of memory (+-) not that much relying on the CPU raw performance, then it is still valid even today, M1 M2 ignored. Anyhow the question is , and most probably time will tell (of someone memoirs), how long marketing waited, or how late were development, or who made bad executive decision, most horror story would be if there were some competitors project inside company, running without knowing each other. Apple silicon team vs best of the best Mac pro team 😀
Have to disagree with you. There are a LOT of people out there who need lots of fast storage. The new Mac Pro can hold a ton of storage (you neglected to mention that with a Sonnet Fusion carrier, you can mount two large 3.5″ drives on top via SATA – great for inexpensive, long-term storage). If you’re going with a Mac Studio, sure you can add a lot of extra external drive and NVMe cases, but access won’t be as fast. And, you’ve got all the clutter of cabling and wall warts, plus the noise of all of those additional little fans (which you could place in a noise reduction cabinet, but there’s yet another expense). There are actually a number of PCIe options that make sense in an audio recording environment (you can get an external PCIe case connected via ThunderBolt, but there’s another expense). In the real world, if you need to buy all of those external things to configure your system, that $3k “savings” is going to be gone pretty fast.
Why you acting like you have actually spent $8000 when you’re just going to return it by abusing the return policy?
Thank you, Luke for buying to review and share your thoughts on Apple’s new Tower M-2 Ultra Mac Pro. To me this is, just a “stop gap” version to hold users over until the new top of the line M-3 processor chips are ready. Sure that, when this happens there will be a more powerful processor inside the Tower Mac Pro than is used inside the “Mac Studio”. Also, now that prices have fallen, please buy a used 2019, Tower Intel Mac Pro and, I would love to hear your comments when you pull it apart. For myself, these are looking better and better each day (smile…smile).
Mac Pro does make sense only if you already have expensive and specialized PCI cards.
I do not need an upgradeable Computer and like the approach of the Apple Silicon Chip Design with Unified memory and neural engine and the fanless design of the MacBook Air.
The only thing that I need is at least 32GB RAM. So I am waiting for the M3 generation.
🤣
I agree it is way too expensive. I have a 2009 Mac Pro and it is my main machine works well. Does what I need. But this is just a PCIE expansion box. Apple should have continued to allow CPU/GPU and memory upgrades. To make the cost justified
I like Apple but they made a bad design choice here with all that space…. Why not consider drive bays? There is loads of room here.
$8K for a Mac Pro that has the same performance as a Mac Studio while taking up a lot more space. Money well spent. 🙃
