I think Apple sells this to the small percentage that needs PCI slots. Not YouTubers thinking they need the most cutting edge. It seems like Youtubers gets so offended when they aren’t the target buyer.

Have towers ever made sense for most computer users? I think the bigger box is what some people want even if there isn’t a good reason for it. The tower case is the 4 wheel drive of the computer world.

I think you’re being far too harsh on everyone and everything here. For production studios, this is basically a drop-in replacement for their old Mac Pros, offering an upgrade path to Apple Silicon that previously didn’t exist. It’s a LOT easier to build out the machines internally with all the storage and I/O needed and then plop it at someone’s desk rather than dealing with the mess of cables the Mac Studio would require.

Does that make this a good product? No. This is not a game changer. We know this. This is very clearly a stopgap measure to ensure that the segment that needs Mac Pros will continue to be served. Is it worth $3000 extra? Yes. The market segment that needs it won’t even blink an eye.

Stay patient. Apple still has a lot of R&D ahead of them to turn their Silicon platform into the powerhouse that crushes all comers. They’ve been really incredible out of the gate, but they can’t do everything at once.

i believe most audio users have already moved to thunderbolt equipment. but this mac pro has 1 fundamental reason for why it exists:
Apple had a bunch of cases left over from the previous macpro and didn’t want them to go to waste, so the new macpro was born.
jokes aside, even the reason of populating this thing with storage doesn’t make sense, cause when you go to those capacities a nas is more in line, but anyway.

They could have kept the CPU and GPU in one chip and then added some ddr5 ram slots and allowed the storage to be upgradable. However it looks like Apple is back at it again

Maybe Apple engineers ran out of time in the redesign process, or were at odds about the strategic direction they wanted to go with this machine. Maybe we will see a greater differentiation with future (M3?) CPU’s or with RAM or other expansion capabilities.
