I’m wondering how filmmakers could make use of a truck like this. Like, you could run an Arri Daylight 18kw HMI for something like 7 hours off the highest specced battery! You wouldn’t, probably the amperage on the outlets is limited as well, but a few Aputure 1200Ds etc ran silently on location while charging your V-Mounts etc and heaps of room for gear…? Sounds pretty cool.

90k is just out of the reach of most F-150 buyers. Kelley BB lists the avg price somewhere around 49k. It looks like auto manufacturers are not asking if they SHOULD do something just because they CAN do something. I remember a bygone era when companies were in the race to add dot com to everything. My friend’s medical device sales company was valued at 50M with ZERO sales, just because it was an internet company. The race to make 0-60 the premier metric for a car is the dotcomization of automobiles. EVs are just not viable yet. Put the money in to battery and infrastructure development. When a recession hits, you see a lot of repossessed expensive trucks. I would imagine the Lightning will be a novelty to be lost by many when times get tough.

What a great evolutionary step this is… the industry as a whole took what was a mostly reliable, ICE vehicle platform, which relied upon what was mostly cheap fossil fuel- that had a range of well more than 400 miles, with the amazing ability to refuel at about every single offramp, corner, metropolitan area in north america… and traded it for lesser mileage-range, a terrible reliance on an already overloaded energy grid with electricity prices ever increasing, unsafe battery technology (if a fire should occur- admittedly rare) …… all in the name of an allegation that CO2 is hastening the demise of the planet somehow and we must shun our modern lifestyle to put an end to it… utter fools

History will remember Elon for mass electric adoption. Ford will re-establish itself as bringing transportation to the masses (think model T). And Ford has a clear advantage. 1) the F series can handle the battery weight. 2) the aftermarket can provide the cool accessories. 3) Ford runs rings around Tesla for quality scale production. 4) It’s available NOW…not some Cyber truck dream.

I’ll never own a pickup truck, but I really want to see this succeed. Once you get pickup truck buyers to realize that the electric version is much better than its gas equivalent, that will really turn the tide toward these much more efficient vehicles.
