buy it for normal use but if you wanna use it to extreme, you might as well buy higher end mac’s or even better buy windows!
Opened youtube on my new Macbook air M2 (base model) and this is the first video I saw 🙁
Bought my very first MacBook Air M2 base model on sale $999.99 at micro center and it’s really nice
The fingerprint thing… bring a Razer Blade user for the last 4 years… meh. It happens. Stop being babies. “Oooh noooo a finger print!” Seriously? Get a grip.
I got the base M2 Air and it’s fine. Nothing is wrong. Nothing is slow. These videos are fkn stupid. It’s a MacBook Air you guys. It’s not a MacBook Pro or Max, it’s a MacBook Air! It’s for college students, general users and girls, it’s not for multimedia editors and producers/creators. If you’re doing anything that would bog down a base model M2 Air, then you bought the wrong MacBook because it’s not targeted towards any of that stuff (although it does quite a decent job anyways).
Also, I’m not a defender of the M2 because it’s the only MacBook I own. I have a base model M1 Pro 14inch already and I had an M1 Air that I gifted to my wife so trust me, I know the other side of this argument. I understand the the M1 Airs had dual SSD and that the base model 256gb M2 air only has one drive and how that almost halves transfer speed but guess what, I will NEVER notice because I didn’t buy a base model M2 Air to transfer 50gb files on a daily basis. I bought it as my travel/everyday general use machine. I have my M1 Pro 14inch if I need crazy power (which I rarely do anyways) so chill everybody.
Also, with the throttling topic, you guys do understand that the M1 Air throttled as well right? That’s literally by design. You get to have a super thin MacBook that doesn’t make any sound at all and in exchange it might throttle performance if you try to melt it exporting 4k video or playing Red Dead Redemption 2 through parallels. Whoah! What a surprise! What a “scandal”!
I’m thinking about getting the M1 and upgrading to a 16gb and the 520 SSD for $1259.
Or should I ge the M2 with 16bg and the 256SSD
Honestly for just a standard laptop get the m1 air. It’s everything it needs to be.
For an upgrade go straight to an m1 14”
not me watching from the base model m2 air
Bla bla bla. I have the base model and it is great.
i got the maxed out m2 air instead of the macbook pro
Issues:
•Since the base model has a single NAND, the SSD is very slow.
•It does not have a fan which might be the reason for a bad battery life. Maybe if the system stays cool, it will have a better battery life
•Lack of ports
•speakers facing away from the user, what’s that about? It does not require impeccable engineering to understand that speakers need to be facing the user
So, if you go for a 512 GB Storage, 16 GB Memory and 10 Core GPU, the price becomes $1699 compared to $1999 for the and its a little confusing cuz I’m not sure if I should spend $2000 on this machine.
For the $300
•You get M2 Pro
•Better speakers
•Better camera and microphone
•better performance and battery life
•a cooling system which will increase performance and life of that device
•more ports
A very cunning business stretgy played by Apple. I have been trying to figure out which MacBook I should buy and I don’t even have the money, my mom’s gonna buy it for me and I wanna keep the price as low as possible but at the same time, make sure I get the best bang for the buck.
Can someone please help me?
I bought one almost 6 month ago and it was a good computer so far…
But if you get anything but base…be ready to wait weeks or longer like I am right now just to get it in store. Makes me just think about canceling and waiting for the m3.
My 2013 MB Air is still going strong (aside from not being able to update the OS; thinking about putting Linux on there). I just pulled the trigger for the maxed-out version of this Air. Hopefully it lasts as long as my old one!
Hi what is the most recommended configuration for the MBAir M2? Thank you
You missed the point on the base model. It is the AIR laptop, not the PRO. It is supposed to be used for light tasks like everything on the web and office work, not video editing or picture editing. Even the slowest of any SSD is fast enough for anything that don’t require large file transfers. The memory is enough for light multitask. The CPU is powerfull enough to do some solid stuff but the overall laptop is not designed for these tasks. Upgrading cost an arm and a leg and it is not worth it compared to buying a PRO version. The extra SSD speed and extra RAM will enable to do work that will thermal throttle the CPU anyway, and having a CPU runing at 100c for extended period of time is not good at all.
For myself, i get the base model because i already have a very powerfull windows desktop. The laptop will be used for browsing and office. I get this one just because of the battery life.
My wife has a 2015 MacBook Pro i5, so a base MacBook Air M1 for $1500 (Australian dollars) would be a pretty great upgrade, I think. The M2 version is $1800.
Does opting for 24GB RAM have any real world impact in battery life over having 8GB? If yes, how much so? Thanks in advance
its laughable how much money people spend on Apple products. I upgraded my PC to 64gigs of ram for under 200. 400 for “24” gigs..is a joke.
