This is a great review! Your talking speed is not too fast and you don’t have too much technical terms which really helped me understand the spec differences of the 2 laptops!
I got the 512gb/ 8gb ram M2. Is that enough for programming for a couple of years?
I want to do coding and software testing should I take M1 pro 14 inch or M2 pro 13 inch
I’m really confused about which one should i get for my graphic design major, or should i get a window laptop
Can we run Windows 11 flawlessly on MacBook Pro ?
tried both, kept the 14″…..no contest and worth the extra $200
Hey friends, do you think the base model of m2 macbook air would be enough for coding or should I upgrade the ram to 16gb.
I’m an IT student and I do some tensorflow or pytorch python codes.
And the second question is, is it better to upgrade the ram or ssd, due to its slower ssd on the base model?
But something that bothers me is the price of MacBook air m2 with 16gb of ram and 512gb of ssd, I could buy a m1 air base model + an iPad air m1 for that pricing.
Which one should I go with?
The upgraded m2 air
Or base model of macbook air + an iPad air.
Great video. Very well explained. Must watch before buying any of these or other M2 machine.
What about screen resolution? I have no idea what liquid retina xdr means
I’ve been thinking on which to choose between the 2 but with 16gb 512gb m2 air. The premium stuff that comes along with m1 pro is really nice but I think I will settle with the air to save some money since I don’t compile large codebase that’s why fans is not really necessary on my usecase.
If it requires an SD card i don’t buy it anymore, almost all content is from a mobile device, now days so just air dropping or Bluetooth to the mac is fine. Id be fine with 1 thunderbolt port for my backup drive, but that will probably be wireless one day anyway.
Great work here! thanks for sharing this amazing info. Would you mind sharing what software you use for editing your videos, please? Keep up your great work.
Hey Dion!
I just bought a MBP 14” base model from Best Buy since they have it currently sitting at $400 off! (Huge deal from what I gather)
It’s just a personal laptop investment that I’ll use to make music, edit videos, learning to code, etc.
Even with all of this — I’ve still been thinkin of maybe “downgrading” to the M2 air!
With the reduction in price it seemed like a great deal, but curious to see what you think for someone like me!
buy the MacBook Pro 14″, it is on sale for $1,599 at Best Buy.
Good informative video. I also like how it was edited. A small piece of feed back though: maybe you can establish a short name for each item you’ll be comparing at the beginning of the video. When you hear the phrase “m2 MacBook air … M1 Pro MacBook Pro” almost every other sentence, it gets very repetitive. Or maybe show graphs to make more comparisons at once without verbalizing the models for each. I don’t know, just a thought. Good video nonetheless.
I use to have MacBook 12” MacBook Air M2 is gonna be a perfect replacement for me for mobile use .I hate the looks on the 14”
And new 16” models .old school look ,Air looks better
Dion, have you tried Blender rendering/editing benchmark on these two machines?
I am in a kind of dilemma because, speccing both machines the MacBook Air M2 (10-core CPU) and the 14″ MacBook Pro M1 Pro (base model 8-core CPU) with the same memory and SSD options (512GB SSD and 16GB Memory) the price difference is extremely close (like, between USD 300-420 in our country.)
The MBA M2 is tempting due to its faster single core CPU performance vs. base model M1 Pro chip MBP, more portability, and in some tests, the 10-core M2 even beats the binned 8-core M1 Pro, but the MBP has better features than the Air M2 (skipping the 13″ MacBook “Pro” because it shouldn’t exist tbh.)
Thank you for this!
I went ahead and bit the bullet and bought the m1 14 pro. I was going to get the Air 512gb but with the Pro Display and the SD card slot it just makes it more convenient if I ever want to edit photos on the go.
Plus – the 14” display just seems like a pleasure to work on photoshop rather than the 13.6” air
Best Buy has the m1 14 for 1599. Just made sense as I want to keep this machine for years to come. 1499 for 512gb m1 (or 1399 at Apple with education discount)
It was a tough choice 😅
can you fit two apps side by side comfortably on the 14″ M1 Pro? I need to watch lectures while taking notes.
M2 Air is a great Laptop, just not at that price and for those specs
