I prefer AWU but I do love the maps of the Garmin 965 Forerunner as I now have both and wear one on each wrist! I may look funny but I don’t care I am a Watch Fanatic!!
Great video matt. The flashlight is awesome
Great comparison. I’d prefer the apple watch ultra overall except for one fatal flaw. I’d prefer it if it was smaller or a different form factor rather than the big chunky square.
Like it Matt. Well done. I’ve owned both over the years. It seems like every couple years I reach a crossroads and switch. That’s where I’m at right now. I currently use the Garmin Fenix 6 pro, but I am very tempted to jump back to the Apple Watch Ultra. I think it will do everything I need (smart + fitness), EXCEPT my 50+ mile ultras. For those I plan to keep the Fenix around. Thanks again!
Thanx Matt, great comparison. Yeah, I guess at this stage we can’t have best of both worlds. You raised all the relevant points and concerns on both sides. Pity Garmin does not cater for e-sim for call’s etc. and from what I can follow, they are not interested in going there any time soon. Also, I’m not sure if Apple will release the AW out of their eco system. Hence, you can only really use it if you have an Iphone…I use my Epix as a cycling computer instead of a dedicated computer, and it works perfectly with Varia radar. Not sure if AWU will link to it thought….O yes..I am also a keen golfer, which I use the Epix for…AW and golf – not good 😂.
I have purchased the AWU twice now, with a mix of the original Epix 2 in between and now the 47mm Pro. The Epix Pro will be staying on my wrist until at least the next generation of the Apple Watch Ultra. Optimizing for fitness first, smart watch capabilities second.
Nice comparison.
What happened to your 265 review? I saw one on the 965 but not the 265yet…
apple watch is for people who want to look smart and are always close to the charger..lmao. so much money for so bad battery life in apple watch is a joke..i will choose any garmin watch anytime..apple watch is a good looking toy 🙂
It don’t compare I own the Apple Watch ultra I am thinking on buying a fenix 7 cause I miss the garmin metrics a lot better the ultra is nice but battery still isn’t good and it’s the same old same apple iOS
Do u think the fenix 7 solar is worth 600 bucks new and do I think it’s worth it 2023
Enduro 3 where you at?!?? Great video!
They don’t compare, the AW ultra still has awful battery life. Would never consider it over my Epix
For most people either watch would work. Comes down to looks for me. I’m not a fan of the Apple Watch look. It’s like wearing an iphone on your wrist. The other reason is that I want a watch that does sport first and smartwatch second. The 5 button menu navigation on the Garmin is indispensable when trying to navigate the menus while your going at 90% max. Navigating the menue via touch screen at 90% effort will quickly get your effort to 100% without any improvement in forward motion 😂😂
“Within Three, 1/100th of a Kilometer”, would be within 30 meters.🏊♂️ 🛰️
I see 100 to 200 people a day at work…and I’ve never seen a lady with an apple watch Ultra, but I probably see at least one lady a week with a Fenix or epix. Whether that means it’s a hand me down Fenix , don’t know. The girls only seem to be choosing the 44mm apple watch from my area which is definitely the more common watch for them.
2 days battery 😂
2:00 haven’t garmin watches generally been multi-band for years? everyone’s talking like this is some new amazing feature, but you could switch on GPS + Galileo etc on watches from years ago.
Also, i wish it’d be talked about more how smaller battery life means a shorter device life. Say a Li-ion battery gets 500 cycles (as a high-estimate at that) before being too degraded – if you’re charging once every 2 weeks that’s plenty of years of use, but if you’re charging every 3 days, so 120 times a year, you’re maybe getting 4 years out of an $800 watch. In theory as long as it’s under 5 years they have to offer you an out-of-warranty solution to that (at least under EU law), but tbh more people should take this into consideration who don’t
Can you connect Garmin Varia to Apple watcj with OS10 ?
Limited usability when completely wet rules out the AWU for triathlon and for ultra marathons.
I can’t believe with all of Garmins GPS technology and as big as they are they haven’t come out with their own cell phone. That would be interesting. That could open up a lot of smartwatch features. They could even tie their emergency LTE services into it.
