1. Screen size — Ultra screen – 1164 mm2 vs Garmin Epix 2 screen – 854mm2 (>36% for Ultra)
2. Battery Life (avg adventure/sports use, all features) — Ultra <18 hrs vs Epix 2 15 hrs (Always On, Multi-band)
3. Barometer - Ultra None vs Epix 2 Yes (how impt is this feature to you? PS-iPhone has a barometer)
4. Weight (case only) — Ultra 61.3g vs Epix2 47
5. Ultra straps are terrible - only three and all adventure style? Apple thinks a adventurous executive won’t want a nice band for a professional environment? Ocean - holes will keep moisture and develop gunk in them, so hard to clean, Alpine - same with all the loops, plus a pain to get on/off, and Trail - boring. Not impressed with the band selection. Did Apple bother to see what adventure competitors offer, evidently not.
6. Main sports are running, cycling, hiking, swimming, then all else. Why is Apple an inch deep and a mile wide on sports? Garmin is killing Apple on the data you can get/see on the watch.
7. Emergency — Ultra offers the siren and satellite, great stuff, Garmin, not so much.
8. Ecosystems — Apple OS w/ all devices working together vs Garmin is OK here, but limited tie in to Apple OS (esp. communications). I can connect an Epix 2 to an Edge 1040, but why, what is improved by doing so?
9. Buttons — Ultra has added a button (that’s good) but Epix 2 has five and they’re easy to use.
10. Price - Ultra $800 vs Epix 2 $1000

So, pros and cons for each. You just have to decide what you need and your priorities. For now, it is a tough call. Over time, Apple may improve the data sets offered relative to Garmin as this is much needed gap bn the two. The Ultra probably provides enough for most people, but if you are serious about running/cycling training, then Garmin may be the better option … for now. Then again, if you’re a diver, then Ultra wins, but Garmin offers diving-focused watches too (Descent series). Essentially, Apple is trying to offer an adventure watch for all that hits the main features, but lacks deeper data, while Garmin is offering deeper data sets based on the specific sport. If you go Garmin Epix 2, are you OK with giving up some of the communication features the Ultra maintains?

I love it 🙂 … but one thing for an adventure watch I am missing – the possibility for having offline maps, if you are somewhere without having cellular network – and that’s what the watch is for, or…

I work out regularly but weight lifting, not the target demographic. With that said, I really enjoy larger screens, brighter screens and a battery life of 3 days v my two year old watch. Very tempted to pick one up. I see it won’t ship till end of October so ill let this feeling of “I want one now” pass and if I still feel like I want it I will definitely be picking one up.

cant believe apple still does not get it ! garmin is leaps ahead and must be laughing out on what they done. I have apple watch 4 and 6, but gave em up for Epix 2 and LOVE IT! the battery life, the features apple can no way compare.

And how about they start making the bracelet from flexible solar so it can charge it??? Its about time common now…charging it every night is a pain, specially when you forget to take it off and put it on the charger at night…morning comes and you have no watch and no time to charge it cuz you gotta go to work…
