Some really great additions to the version definitely widening the audience, the strap looks like an afterthought, shame as the current straps look like they were made for the watch.

Unless there is a forced GPS standalone mode when you have your phone with you the Apple watch is still pointless. Also the fact it uses the pedometer with GPS it has never recorded accurate distance for me. Will still with my Garmin.

Hi Ray, thx for this extremely quick insight of the new Ultra.
Since you are traveling a lot between europe and the US maybe you can help with my question.

What really would interest me is the fact why, despite the announcement of international roaming, two different models for the US and the wider EU market (US Model A2622 & EU Model A2684) are being offered and the Apple website again explicitly states that for example, the EU version as a standalone (cellular) is not working with the bands/frequencies in the USA and vice versa.
I travel a lot between Germany and the US and have mobile phone plans in both countries that I could use for the AW.
However, I don’t quite understand the problem or I don’t have the technical knowledge of the difference between whether I can use a European watch with a German plan in the USA under the local networks/bands, but not a European model with a US plan!?
What’s the whole deal with international roaming if they offer different models!?
Is that a hardware thing or can that be changed with an software update?

Hope my question makes any sense 😉

Wow, they added an AMAZING button and increased battery life to an AMAZING 30 hours. Are we serious here? This is 2022. That’s not amazing! That’s marketing language. Garmin Epix 2 is as expensive but at least you get 6-16 DAYS battery life and a load sports and health features. Only real new feature on AWU is depth meter for diving.

Might be the look of the flat crystal – it looks like the viewable part of the screen is actually not bigger despite a massive case? The side by side compared picture makes it look like the S8 is as big

Apple: The daily usage of the watch can go up to 36 hours in full battery mode, on a low power mode, it can head up to 60 hours

Same disadvantage. Worst battery life. Irony is they say they make ultra for outside sports and activity enthusiasts, but what they don’t tell ppl is that those enthusiasts need to carry a battery bank with them on their adventures to keep the watch running. Compared to other watches like amazfit، Huawei or Honor etc which give 14 days of battery life which is practical. So even i find my colleagues in the office having their apple gadgets under manual battery management

Glad the design of 8 is more or less unchanged from the series 7 and that the ultra is too prohibitive price wise, as I feel a lot better about keeping my series 7 for Atleast another year.

I like this watch but I don’t want to give up Garmin Connect. I use my Garmin watch(6 series) as a heart rate to connect to my Edge while cycling and I sometimes use the watch as a bike computer with a dedicated Garmin bike mount. Hope Apple watch can be more bike friendly and add more functions and sensors to power meters and cadence.
