I hope they push gaming on this. I have an iPad Air 4 with an A14 Bionic that can play games amazingly well and even look nice when displayed on a TV.

This isn’t just the cut down A15 either, it’s the full fledged one in the iPhone 13 Pro. This is a chip capable of 1.5Tflops. Never seen that kind of power in a TV Box before. They should really push gaming on this better. For me all they have to do is push more controller support in IOS games. That’d be a great start. If I can play Mario Kart, Apex Legends and even Call of Duty Mobile on this device, for $129 Apple could offer the most affordable way to game. Not even a Switch Lite is that much.

Best streamer for the $ is the Chromecast with Google TV. It’s like twenty bucks on sale now and the easiest streamer with the best interface. I have the shield pro and apple TV and I use the cheap chromecast all the time.

My Chromecast with Google Tv is trash. Apple TV is by far the best in my experience, looking forward to this minor but welcome update to replace it!

I believe the new Apple TV still doesn’t pass lossless audio, which is an issue for some people with lossless video files/rips.

I’m from the Philippines. I would rather prefer to high-end Android streaming TV box with AV1 decoder whether generic or 2nd gen Google Chromecast, ideally for most budget conscious consumers.

The personal home theatre experience Caleb mentioned is really underrated. Especially for people like me whose family hates loud speakers/subs, getting that experience all to myself (and pretty impressive) is awesome!

I find HDR10+ actually improves the picture quality, where Dolby Vision tends to make it darker most times.

I got my apple tv 4k a couple of months ago and it is not flowless. Rarely can be sluggish for $110. Unfortunately Paramount+ or Peacock are a bit too buggy.

I loved my chrome cast with GTV but recently it’s been ultra slow and it’s had some hdmi handshake issues that are not worth buying a new one just to have these issues in a year again.

Nobody that owns a 4k smart tv needs a streaming device because every 4k smart tv IS a streaming device. Also, your TV that’s a few years old isn’t going to ” Slow down” opening apps. If it does you just have to install the latest firmware update for your TV. I have a LG 55SM8600PUA from 2019 and it’s still as fast if not faster opening Apps now than in 2019 when I purchased it. I have never had a smart tv slow down because of age. It’s lies to trick your mind into thinking that you need to run out and buy a new TV ” and make sure you use Caleb Dennisons links” to make tv manufacturers more money.

Yet another media box that doesnt support any HD audio formats, this really is getting ridiculous. It’s nearly 2023 and I am still relying on the frankly pretty outdated Shield TV due to it actually supporting the formats I required, id love to update to something a bit more modern, but I am not going to sacrifice features that are available on a nearly seven year old device to do it. Also it really does annoy me that reviewers tend to just ignore this, they bang on about the image and gloss over the audio by saying Netflix supports Dolby Atmos, usually failing to mention this is the lossy Dolby Digital + Atmos and not full Atmos.

Nvidia shield doesn’t support refresh rate matching. Idf with plex either. Shield costs and arm and a leg and is obsolete.
