As a Plex user with 4K UHD Blu-ray rips, the Apple TV 4K isn’t even a consideration as it doesn’t support Dolby TrueHD, DTS, DTS-HD, or DTS-X. If you’re only watching content from streaming services which is usually only DD 5.1 or DD+ with Atmos, then I’m sure the Apple TV 4K like Caleb said will be great for most people.
I’d buy an Apply TV tomorrow if it supported TrueHD passthrough. Because it doesn’t I have to go with the Shield even though I think in general it’s otherwise a strictly inferior product
This Apple TV is an EXCELLENT deal. However, until Apple stops restricting cloud gaming on their devices (which I don’t see happening any time soon), I will not be buying one of these.
If you have an older apple tv box and really want the new remote. You can just buy the remote. Just a heads up.
Used to be the shield pro until the ads and new interface.
I use a cheap Beelink PC as a media player. Does everything.
“The apple TV is actually built to last”
Apple: Let’s release 3 versions in 5 yrs and two versions in 2 years 🤣🤣
It is missing a coaxial or toslink for HD Audio to my DAC.
Still rocking the OG ATV 4K and it’s still going strong!
In England (UK) the price is still the same 😢
For enthusiasts, Apple TV 4K also provides the best frame-rate matching experience for quite a few of the mainstream apps (fixes the 24p judder issue and whatnot).
For Amazon devices, the Fire TV OS as a platform has been ready for a while now and, apart from the obvious Prime Video app, no other streaming apps have adopted it.
The NVIDIA Shields also support such feature but under BETA version that requires manual input & is a bit hit-and-miss since forever.
Can we please get a shoot out for the best streaming devices? (cube, ultra, shield & Apple) Each of these are the best in their respective categories and all have support for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android.
Shield Pro is still a bit more versatile and can work as a Plex server, but Apple is now less intrusive with ads compared to the Google Discovery landing page. Mostly an ecosystem choice.
Does it still have 3 the Concurrent BT connection limitation?
Is it time that we go back to dumb TVs and manufacturers can just add another HDMI input so that we can connect our favorite TV box? It just doesn’t make sense to have LG’s own OS, TCL to have Roku, Sony to have Google and Samsung to have Tizen. Save the money or use it for processing for the picture and let us buy our own box. Just assign a starting input in the TV settings so that you can always tune to the smart UI.
My old Sony’s UI was horrible, my Samsung’s Tizen leaves a lot to be desired and the LG’s pointer makes life difficult.
I have a 4 year old Nvidia shield, I think I’m going to upgrade it but I’m leaning towards the shield pro.
My media rack is in the basement, the shield remote works fine through walls and the floor, anyone know the range on tne apple tv remote?
This looks good!
Shield Pro has my vote especially for home theaters. I have it connected to my OLED in the livingroom. My other tv’s in the house all have Rokus. As I understand AppleTv doesn’t support DTS, True-HD codecs and down converts them. I also heard that it compressed Atmos but I cannot confirm that.
Still no Dolby Atmos direct play from MKV in plex server. 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Nvidia Shield Still King streamer. 👑
Well then guess I’ll have to get me a Apple TV 4K
