I think I have or had all of the various streaming boxes except the Shield. Among the ones I’ve used, the Apple TV is easily the nicest streaming box, and it is well worth the premium. It is an appliance you use every day and never want to think much about, which is exactly the kind of thing Apple does really well. Honestly, it is not so much that the AppleTV is some amazing thing, it is more that the competition is so terrible/weak. Amazon’s FireTV is basically a deal where you pay less for the hardware in exchange for being constantly marketed to and pushed into the Amazon ecosystem. It works, but the UI is about marketing first and user experience last. My Fire stick lives in the TV in the guest room, where I essentially never have to use it. Chromecast is Google’s version of the Fire stick, with similar drawbacks coupled with slightly less polished and stable software, so it is basically hot garbage. If you are going for the cheapest possible streamer, at least the Fire stick rarely crashes. Roku is a noticeable step up from both of those options. It is not a complete Trojan horse of advertising, the interface is stable and simple, and it isn’t going to constantly annoy you day-to-day. Less advertising doesn’t mean none and Roku is still a bit too ad-heavy, particularly the junky screen saver, but it is probably the best choice if you are on a budget. I upgraded from a Roku to the Apple TV when I bought a 4k/Dolby Vision capable TV, and I was worried at the time that I was spending too much to get trivial upgrades vs. the Roku. If you are on the fence, pull the trigger, you won’t regret the upgrade.
Hi Caleb. I bought a Sony OLED at the end of 2021. I can’t remember the model number. It wasn’t the top of the line but was one step down. Anyway, my question is, can you control the Apple TV with the Sony remote control that came with the TV? I hate those Apple TV remotes. Thank you.
I have had all the versions of Apple TV and enjoyed for streaming my media and movies. The only thing missing is one of my favourite apps that only runs on android for now 🤞🤞TiviMate.
You sold me, I ordered one. One of the most irritating things is how slow my Roku interface feels especially in demanding apps like the HBO app and it’s only a couple years old. And Google refuses to make a higher powered Google TV device -_-
I don’t waste money on streaming services.
HDR10+ IS THE FUTURE
I would spring for the upgrade IF it had two HDMI OUTs. ARC is so unreliable and if it doesn’t work one has to choose either Atmos sound OR quality picture. A dual output would easily fix that since no manufacturer can be bothered testing every possible streamer with their latest TV.
Fire TV cube 3rd gen is definitely my device!!
You folks experiencing problems with the last gen apple tv 64gb and Sony tvs? I keep having to restart my TV because the signal from the Apple TV just makes any stream that’s not the Home Screen a “green screen”
I wonder if they should have changed the Apple TV charging port to usb-c as well just like they did for the remote
It’s too bad it won’t let you add third party apps
I just bought the new Roku Ultra which I love, but honestly the sound issues are really bugging me more than they should but besides that, pretty solid streaming box! Never owned an Apple TV I was thinking about get it before the Roku Ultra but the price was what ultimately drove me to Roku again (long time roku user)
I’m getting the feeling that PlayStation Plus is going to wind up on this.
🤣 this made my day!
How’s the upscaling on the new Apple TV. He didn’t talk about it at all??
Video starts at 2:19
Everyone in my house loves our 2nd gen AppleTV. Can’t wait to upgrade to 3rd gen. My dad will be getting my 2nd gen.
shield pro
I have a 5 month old ATV4K 32gb and am having audio issues when the unit it set to auto Dolby atmos and is plugged directly into my TV and the sound is fed into my Vizio Atmos sound bar. I get garbled audio on literally ALL non atmos content. I have to set the unit to Dolby 5.1 to rid myself of this issue. If I plug the ATV4K into the HDMI IN on my Vizio sound bar I don’t have this issue all but will sometimes get static and my picture ends up looking somewhat washed out a bit. I also own a 2020 Roku Ultra, 2nd gen Firecube AND a Chromecast and I have no audio issues whatsoever when those are plugged directly into my TV. My TV is a 2019 LG 86 inch. Any ideas for a fix? I tried resetting everything even resetting my TV to its original settings and power cycling my sound bar. Nothing!
firestick on the go is marvelous. Doesn’t need a wall plug!!!
