I keep hearing that Plex on Apple TV does not support content from my own library. I am wondering if that is true or not? Thanks
I have the 1st gen Apple TV 4K and it is still my favorite streaming box! I still don’t even have a need to upgrade it to this one, I just kind of want to because I’ve had this one so long. Plus I do need a 2nd one for my other bedroom. Might as well get two and gift the old one.
Apple TV 4K is the best and I have them all
You have been assimilated. Welcome to The Collective.
Some are expecting the fabled Apple Console supposedly being worked on… 🤭
Best streaming device is tricky, but I’ve got 3 categories. Shield TV Pro for absolute best with the AI upscaling that makes older content look much higher res than it is. Apple TV for simplicity, and those in the Apple ecosystem that want a seamless experience. Chromecast with Google TV for budget device that still does most of what you want. I am going to get a new Apple TV 4K to try it out, but I have a feeling I’ll be continuing to use my Shield TV Pro and upgrading a friend or family member’s streaming experience with the Apple TV if the upscaling experience isn’t as good since I watch a lot of Anime and short of a hand full of movies and some Netflix series most Anime is 1080P or lower resolution.
My favorite streaming device? Well, that’s easy. It’s the PS4, even the PS3, what is has access is still very good. Youtube is easy, Disney+ on the PS4 is smooth and runs without problems and I don’t have to use any other devices.
For the little change everything sounds good, always liked apple tv found if a bit pricey in the past so i defaulted to the fire stick whitch i think is one of the best.
Nivida shield
It’s has HDMI 2.1. Does it support 4k 120hz ? Like when I’m the OS? Does it run at 120hz ?
Also, I think it’s a great device for the price point! Just ordered mine, thanks!
I haven’t seen it mentioned here, but certainly could have missed it. What if the new A15 Bionic chip in the AppleTV is there for computing power to support Apple’s (rumored…) VR/AR products?
Hands down Nvidia shield pro.
Tried to update from my AppleTV HD to a 4K a year or so ago. Ended up sending it back. After digging through Apples FAQs about the AppleTV 4K, I found that it uses a version of Dolby Atmos that may not work with the ARC on some TVs. Apparently my TCL 6 series TV is one of them. My receiver and TV are both three or four years old, and I have no plans to replace either right now. When I tried the old AppleTV 4K, I could plug it straight into the TV, and get Dolby Vision, but no Dolby Atmos was sent to the receiver. Plugged into the receiver, would give me Dolby Atmos, but no Dolby Vision was passed on to the TV. Using an app on the built in Roku in the TV, will show Dolby Vision, and send Dolby Atmos to my receiver. I don’t know what version of Atmos the AppleTV uses, but it will not work with my somewhat old setup. I may get the new AppleTV anyway, since the updates to it do sound like it would be worth it.
Don’t forget it now has support for the Dolby digital DD plus
Caleb since you are someone that regularly configures and optimizes TV pictures, how accurate is the Apple TV’s tool compared to what you normally change??
Just ordered. Now I have all 3 gens of the 4k lol
We’re pretty much entrenched in the Amazon ecosystem with Amazon Prime, 4 Echo devices, an Amazon Firestick 4K Max, and the Ring Floodlight Cam Plus.
Although I did get a Roku 4K Plus just as an extra streaming device.
We also have the TiVo Stream 4K but haven’t used it in quite awhile.
I stand by my Apple TV 4K. I may get a new one, mine was pre-loved. Oh, and I wish my Apple TV 4K would make me dinner…and make my bed.
I love the Apple 4K TV period.
It still boggles my mind how hard Apple pushes the PS5 DualSense controller when there is still no native PS Remote Play app on Apple TV
