The big question for me is still air or pro? Is the £300 price difference justifiable? Also base model air 7 core GPU – much of a performance loss?

I build my pc for less than 600usd with gtx1070+intel i5 9400f exported a 10min 4k h.264 video in premiere in 3min while m1 in this video took 8min,desktop vs laptop is not a fair comparison but my point is you can have much more power using pc for less price if you don’t need the portability.M1 is great compare to intel macs ,and now we can all amdit that intel macs are way too expensive for their poor performance.M1 is good,but not that good compare to pc in the same price range.

I’m frustrated the new Pro only supports 1 external monitor, which makes it a no-buy for me.

For a first gen, this M1 is a game changer and a big slap for Intel ; all that perfomance Plus an amazing power efficiency that’s incredible.

But in terms of design , What the heck ? I mean side by side with the 13,4inch XPS ,Wow that’s embarrassing.
I’m expecting Apple going to get rid of those humongous and hideous bezels for the next products.

I saw the Macbook Air has the same M1 chip and specs. So it has the same performance as the Macbook Pro? Then its a better alternative (cheaper, same performance and lighter) to the Macbook Pro?

Could you confirm that it does ‘t support two external displays, even with the lid closed? I know what the specs say, but it’s hard to believe they could slip on that. And by any chance do you have any strategy games, like Stellaris to test with?

Great review. I was bit concerned after you disappeared down the Apple corporate rabbit hole a few days ago. The things you have to do to get an early M1 machine I guess. Well done, pretty balanced review showing genuine excitement backed up by some evidence. Looks like Apple can tick the big success box for their lower end models with on chip graphics. Thats probably most apple users out there. Can’t wait to see what they do with the truly Pro Macs, but I am already getting sucked in hehehe

I was liking the MacBook up until you placed the Dell XPS next to it. That MacBook design is so so outdated by now, I’d personally prefer the XPS 13 just for the looks since I don’t do much heavy duty tasks on a portable device anyways.

This is also great for the PC space. The higher efficiency and performance of the Apple chips will force PC manufacturers to push Intel and AMD to step up their game or they’ll lose customers to Apple because even as a PC user these new Macbooks are very very tempting.

People don’t realise how bigger deal this is. X86 Will die. Data centres already use 96 core 389 thread ARM cpus. X86 simply cannot compare the power savings are massive! So we can look forward to even better performance! This is first generation! 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎
