Man M1 looks promising for a 1st gen chip. And it’s also crazy to know that most are not even optimized for M1’s architecture yet already performing better than the intel equivalent.

I use mostly Chrome with up to 40-50 tabs open for email, project Mgmt, G Drive, Google Sheets, G docs, and YouTube videos, would this new laptop be a good move to buy?

Let’s not forget that 8-core Tiger Lake is coming in 2021. And Alder-Lake is coming, an x86 hybrid implementation with big.Little cores similar to m1. Also, AMD 5 nm is coming.

Would be interesting to see how those new x86 chips compare to Apple’s offerings. M1 is impressive, but the graphics won’t catch Big Navi, and RDNA3 is coming which will bring even more crazy performance.

Hopefully EGpu doesn’t go away with new M-series chips… I don’t think Apple will catch up to AMD’s discrete Gpu performance. But you never know…..

What good Apple has done is to have created its own processing chip and this def will make Apple devices more efficient and battery friendly . We are waiting for next year when Apple will introduce its M2 chip for 16 Inch Bigger mac.

Going through all the reviews, M1 feels like a chip that was designed a bit conservatively despite its apparent performance gains against Intel 10th Gen. Intel 11th gen brings the graphics on par with M1 but Apple considers M1 to be an LP (Low Power) chip. It’s Max TDP is approx. around the 18W mark. When Apple releases M2 or M1X that will probably bring huge gains in performance over MBP16″ and MBP 13″ (4 Port) laptops. They might even release a MBP14″ as has been rumored to bring their entire Macbook offerings more in line with iPhone which now has four distinct models.

One thing I hope they can solve though and haven’t yet is gaming on these laptops. Will Football manager for example run properly ? Can the iOS PUBG run properly ? These Laptops have same TF as previous console generations. 1080p 30 or 1080p 60 on older games should be easy but maybe the thermal solutions hold these machines back.

My question is: “why not just buy a gaming laptops which can do everything this thing can do but also deliver good fps in games for those stupid prices?”

So gaming is still shitty on Mac. Considering a Ryzen 7 4800 laptop can give me similar performance plus a much superior gaming performance for a much lower price I still don’t think it’s a bang for the buck deal. But well Apple products in general are kind of like that, they are made for a specific kind of people.
