Which is the best option for this Black Friday?
a) Buying the 16” MBP 2019, and later upgrade to the M1 16” MBP 2021 or

Want to go with the 16”. That said, if you buy an Intel based 16” now, how long before new apps designed for M1 no longer can be run on an Intel MBP Pro? Don’t want to be stuck with a $3k paperweight. Plus it could take til mid-2021 before the 16” M1 comes out.

The design of the MBP is so outdated when you have it side by side with the XPS.
Those bezels are huge.
Performance is great and will get better when all app are compiled for the Apple SoC.

This is good because it’ll start new competition with Intel as well as Microsoft only the customer can win in the end I believe .
I have a feeling we’re going to find some huge security flaws with these new M1 chips though….. Considering how much server talk it does unencrypted to boot can’t be a good thing at all, I believe my thoughts. 🇨🇦🍁🇨🇦

Since the new M1 Mac enabled Blackmagic Disk Speed Test just came out today, it reveals much higher disk speed benchmarks on M1 Macs than the previous Disk Speed Test running under Rosetta 2. My M1 Mac Mini with 1TB SSD drive and 16GB RAM now has a write speed of 3200 MB/sec, whereas my stock M1 Mac Mini with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD drive only gets a much lower write speed of 2100 MB/sec. Both the 1TB and 256GB drives get an average read speed of about 2800 MB/sec. I had seen many reviewers saying the SSD size did not change the SSD disk speed, but now that we have the latest updated M1 Mac native Disk Speed Test, that turns out to be false. The larger the SSD disk size the faster the write speed on the M1 Mac Mini (not sure if this is the case on the new M1 Macbook Air or Macbook Pro as I do not have these).

In 6 months from now apple sends an update for you to update the same system security due to bugs and boom you’re back to square one. Apple will be doing this for a very long time if people don’t wake up.

I need both a new laptop and a new desktop and I’m tempted to buy both the MacBook Pro and the Mac mini, but I know if I can wait on one of them, the M2 chip is going to be even better.

Imagine how the performance would in next couple of years on higher end macs with higher cooling capacities and well optimized apps . Seriously it is super exciting.

As far as I know, macbooks do not have the best cooling system so there might be performance loss on intel might that come from throttling. Maybe a test with some cooling pad?
