3:06 there’s any difference (in a bad way) between the M1 Pro chips?

M1 Pro with 8-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine
M1 Pro with 10-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine

You choose the base, so fan noise are gone and battery life improve, is the same for the other two?

why I ask? I’ll skip the MAX, but maybe I want the second: Apple M1 Pro with 10-core CPU, 14-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine

Great video! Could you tell us how many extra hours you get after switching from M1 Max to M1 Pro in the MBP 14″? I just did return my MBP 14″ with M1 Max too because battery was terrible. Now I’m deciding between getting another one but base model or the new Macbook Air M2.

If you have to keep one, do you prefer 14 or 16 version? Im thinking to upgrade my 14 to 16 (both base model) for its bigger size. Do you think it is worth it?

I want to thank you for this much needed perspective. Do you suggest the second upgrade to 10 core/14 gpu from the base base? Or do you think the 14” model wouldnt even be able to handle this upgrade?

M1 Max is a bit too much for the 14″ to handle in general. Pro is more suitable for that smaller battery laptop, otherwise go for the 16″ for M1 Max. But hey, 16″ with M1 Pro is even better! Furthermore, if you intend to use macOS with external display—you will need 4K or higher for the best font and UI appearances. I ran it on 1440p, it was ugly.

I struggled with this: 14 or 16 inch? I went with the 16 inch and LOVE it. ( M1 Max 32 core 64 ram 2 terabyte storage) Ouch!… retailed at $4300 BUT, found a refurbished at the Apple refurbished site which knocked off 10% plus another 3% discount cash back on my Apple credit card helped relieve some of that financial pain! The tough decision I had was the size, however even though I travel a bit, the 16 inch is heavier, but other other factors completely override that. I have also noticed more and more bigger size machines in public areas: perhaps our tech culture is going through a “seismic paradigm shift for the bigger screen is better perspective. Side note: Just Josh, your speaking style is excellent: no filler of BS fluff, just the facts and delivered fast: that is so refreshing!

I have the option of getting a 14″ , 1TB, 10CPU, 16GPU, 32 unified, 16 neural engine (10/16/32/16) new in box and sealed, or a base 16″, 512GB, 10/16/16/16 from the actual Apple store for roughly the same price.
I am a bit confused about the throttle, thermos, and battery life implications. I want good battery, and I do love a smoother photo/video editing workflow, but I am not a professional (i.e., it’s not my main income).
I am not sure if I go with the 14″ from a private seller, or the Apple store. What would you do?
