Better with the larger trackpad on the 2021 16-inch MacBook Pro.
My cynical take is that Windows laptops will N E V E R match the hardware quality of these macs. It would be foolish to believe otherwise given their history. Just looking at any supposedly high-end product line from Windows manufacturers, there’s always at least a few gotchas – they never polish everything up.
And I say this with bitterness as someone who needs Windows. I want the MBP 16 hardware (minus the disgusting anti-consumer lack of repairability), but with Windows. Don’t think it will ever happen.
Honestly the 14” is the best laptop I’ve ever used. It has everything i need for basic use and my creative endeavors!!
I mostly agree with your 14” review but I honestly find the weight heavy, like really heavy compared to my ultrabook choices. Then again I’m not a very big guy (though very fit) so maybe it effects me more than others but not sure. I’m also still not a huge fan of the keyboard but it may be I’m projecting from my history with older macs. Still great to hear your long term review. Especially about the app issues.
Tech YouTubers tend to review MacBook line with focus on Video editing, it feels like MBKHD telling Linus Tech Tips to get a new MBP. For a lot of people out there, they don’t do video editing, like myself, I am a developer, having twice processing power doesn’t make me write twice as much of code. However I’d love to have that screen, but Apple doesn’t give you that option for having M1 normal in a 16 inch body. (For a cheaper price)
Based on your experience, the 14 inch pro model seems to be better with handling a less powerful 14 or 16 core m1 pro chip rather than the more powerful m1 max chip.
About your space bar issue. I have M1 14″ Pro, I noticed the exact same spot on space bar makes an imprint of the screen because it’s slightly more elevated. I don’t notice the sharp edge as my finger glides over it like you mentioned. This is my 2nd M1 14″ Pro, I returned the first one because the “right arrow” key in the lower right corner is more recessed. I find it’s not response when pressed. Overall I think this is the quality control issue during manufacturing.
With the transition to Apple Silicon, Apple is killing it in the laptop space. The M1 MBA released back in Nov 2020 is still far better than any other windows thin and light laptop. With these machines, they have given power users everything they need. For a work laptop, unless someone has an application that will not run on Apple Silicon, it is hard to recommend anything else right now. I really hope the PC market steps up their game this year.
How would you rate this keyboard, especially in comparison to a 2015 15″ Macbook pro? I have been holding off an upgrade for the past 5 years, as I type a lot and the keyboard and trackpad are the two most important features for me on a portable computer.
You really deserve more views and subs! Your reviews are interesting, informative, in-depth and enjoyable; just wanna say we love you and keep up the amazing work 🙂
Im subscribed bro, i hope it makes ur mum proud =)
Josh thank you for your review. It’s amazing. I am a developer who needs Ubuntu ans windows as primary operating systems. I use virtual, box for running alternate operating systems for various works on my current machine.I have no use for Mac operating system and I don’t really like it that much. I don’t do video editing that much. Just programming and web related stuff. The Mac hardware is perfect but the software side and limitation to run windows and Linux are dealbreakers. My other choice is a dell 5520 with a 4K screen. What do you think I should do here ?
Nice review! I’m a little confused about what you said regarding the space bar tho. I got a 14th inch the other day and don’t seem to have an issue, but I’m not sure what I’m supposed to look for in the first place haha
Well made video about hardware that you needed to make this video about making videos with hardware that is needed for making videos about hardware that is needed to make videos…
Am I the only one who laughed about my thumb catching the keyboard? Fair I haven’t experienced this but really?
brilliant, clear and precise intro, well done!
Man do I wish I had an M1 in my Thinkpad Yoga!
Damn this channel is underrated.
I have watched countless videos on this subject and this is, by far, the best one I’ve come across! You just saved me time and frustration with your thorough review – I had the 14″ with M1 Max and 24-core GPU in my shopping cart and now I’ve decided to upgrade to the 16″ version. THANK YOU!!
Which would you recommend if we need to have windows vm ?
