Excellent review the only thing i missed is whether you think the relatively insaenly high prices justify these machines
The conspiracy theorist in me thinks the issues with third-party cloud backup apps on M1 Macs is intentional because Apple wants to keep you tethered to iCloud. I’ve experienced similar behavior with OneDrive on an M1 MacBook Pro and Air. The client application was so bad that at points I had to resort to keeping a browser tab with OneDrive open at all times so I could transfer files.
I wish i can have a 14 inch macbook pro for my daily use 😭it is just a perfect laptop overall and for me the battery life and the screen, power is just so sweet to have for my very hard medical university life doing research, CME and presentations.
Overall the best review by far.
Except for price of course. The macs are just too expensive and still don’t have the compatibility I need for work.
Sadly, I didn’t want a 16 inch and I needed a 14 inch M1 Max, which only certain configurations were available in a reasonable time, so I got the following config from Apple:
MacBook Pro 14 inch
M1 Max with 32 GPU cores
64 GB of RAM
2 TB of Storage
BTW, the laptop did sometimes get slightly warm, but never THAT warm like you or Daniel from ZoneOfTech said, and the battery life was at least 8 hours on my unit. I don’t know what circumstances you and Daniel got this poor battery life, but I’ve been perfectly happy with my 14 inch. Good review though, and I agree, the 2021 MacBook Pros are substantial upgrades from the previous ones.
Yesterday I ordered the base model m1 macbook air for school (computer science), but then I realised lenovo yoga slim 7 pro (which was not available in where I live before) is in stock now. The one with 90hz display, 5800h processor, 16GB of ram and 1TB nvme ssd is 20% more expensive than the macbook air I bought. When I still have the chance to cancel my order, I wanted to ask which one of these two would be a better buy. Actually even the macbook air was a little above my budget but I still feel a little uncomfortable of my purchase. Quick note: I have a desktop with 10400F-16GB of ram-1660Ti, I needed a laptop for school since the lab computers are very slow. The biggest concern I have with the macbook is the ram. Thanks
Please do Lenovo Slim 7 Carbon 14 review which you promised late last year 🙂
Thanks for the update Josh really informative to see the long term perspective. The only gripe I have with this video is that I learned that you are a Singed player and I don’t know how to feel about that.
Great review !
I’m confused about the gripe you had with the CMD to Space keys – is it that your finger doesn’t smooth glide over or that it’s pressing both keys too easily? For me personally I have my left thumb on left command and right thumb on space.
Woo, new video
Smashed the Like button and greetings to your mom!
Any quick insight on number of rows on 14” vs 16”?
In VS Code or Excel?
Very nice video, again, and again!
I do wish I could have both a Mac and a windows machine but I stuck with a gaming laptop since I don’t want to pay way more for a laptops power I’ll be hard pressed to use since I game so much. I have the legion 5 pro but sometimes I wish I had a base 16in MacBook Pro next to it
I don’t care about macs, but here I am watching a video about them. Watching laptop reviews is fun. 🙂
Ooh, that notch area with a fullscreen app is Ugly!
Outstanding content as usual. Your experience just reinforces that there is no best machine for everything and that it really depends on your use case. As for expecting PC companies to step up, I’ll believe it when I see it. The things that PC manufacturers can easily control such as better webcams and speakers they don’t bother with upgrading. They can’t do much with the hot processors from Intel/AMD. It will be a couple of generations, at best, before they can compete with Apple by providing a chip that’s high performing, low power and generates low heat.
09:22 – “Smash that like button because…….It makes my mother very proud” 😂 You made me spit out the beverage I was drinking! 😂 You seriously should try stand up comedy!
I’m a long time MacBook Pro user, but to me it doesn’t matter how good these are as long as they have that notch.
Josh never disappoints! Just keep the videos coming! Love them
