What do you guys think? Is it time to ditch X86 and make the switch to Mac/ARM? Or is there life in x86 yet?
Thanks for that. I think the M chips and Macs are the future.
Intel is doomed?
I’ve been an Apple user when I was lucky enough to win one at a casino and was so impressed I replaced my windows desktop with an Apple within a year. When Apple came out with the new chip — I was cautious and skeptical at first but I did some research and watched some videos from experts testing the new chip and was very impressed so when the opportunity presented itself, I purchased one (upgraded of course). My current laptop is an Apple that I’ve had for 8 years and it’s starting to show it’s age – it still works, but I think I’m due for an upgrade since I do a majority of my daily activities online. I wish to thank the author of this video for his unbiased, straightforward & hilarious commentary.
I think it is worth pointing out that the graphics on the base Air are the 7-core variant. The 8-core graphics on the MacBook Pro do seem to be about the same (or even slightly more in some cases) as Intel’s XE graphics.
Felt like you should have said something about app compatibility
I’m with you on the 1440p point 👍
Same here. My next laptop will definitely be a Macbook hands down. Unless windows laptops can give a comparable performance and battery life, they’ll never be on my wishlist.
Don’t call it 1440p it’s 1600p due to 16/10 aspect ratio
I would love to be all in on a Macbook but when I look at it in comparison to a Ryzen 5000 with a decent nvidia GPU the performance difference on the CPU end is marginal. Depends on the use case but I’d rather keep my x86 software environment. The battery life and screen are the most compelling parts of the new M1s. Put this chip into a 14-16″at the same price or if it could output to 2 monitors I’d be sold on it as a pure work machine but I know the M1x models are going to be expensive.
That’s an issue because Apple has a history of screwing over customers on repairs and warranty, they never admit fault on design flaws like the 16″ flex cable or butterfly switches until they are sued. These new computers are disposables, if anything goes wrong you buy a new one which I cannot afford to at the top end nor agree with. Its mental that Apple attacks the longevity of its own products for what is likely a marginal addition to profit.
Youtube algorithm working in your favour
Owner an M1 MacBook Air, I can attest to its performance and capabilities It’s not the most powerful laptop in the world but it’s WAY more capable than most PC laptops and can do virtually anything your average user can ask of it. No regrets.
Honestly this is so amazing literally better than some big reviewers great job!
Regarding keyboard, XPS 13 has totally mediocre keyboard. Macbook Air has ok keyboard for that low travel, but You cannot compare it to any Thinkpad or Surface or even HP Spectre that has much better keyboard overall. I cannot understand your conclusion because we tested it in the office, and all people have the same conclusion like I wrote when you test this product side by side. I do not know if You used it for more time and get to this conclusion or it was just trying for few minutes.
Disappointing that it’s got such a very glossy screen.
Great review!
Cool narrative stye.
Hey Phil! Great review, thanks. Question: do you think 256GB is enough storage for basic usage? I have 40GB of music that I would like to store on the SSD + the occasional download from Netflix for offline use. Next to that I will be using Spotify, storing about 10GB of docs and have all the MS Office apps on there.
The computer is amazing but come on that webcam suckss
Once you’ve been Mac you’ll never go back did you say? lol
Sorry Phil, but the constant in & out framing and the frequent LIKES and SUBSCRIBE begging throughout this video was distracting for me. Why not hold a steady frame, drop the music and keep the core messages clean? But then again, you are entitled to your own editing style, just not my taste.
