Great timely review. I have been wondering between the Air and the Pro. One question, if I am operating in remote environments in the bush in Australia, where the ambient temperatures are hot, any thoughts for how the Air might cope and would in a situation like that would the fan based Pro be a better bet?

Все равно, пока весь софт нормально не завезут на маки с м1 (как минимум докер и parallels) – говорить про то, что на них начнут переходить профессиональные разработчики – не приходится. Каким бы тихим он не был. Например, маки брали в отдел тестирования, чтобы на одной машинке можно было глянуть под мак и виндос сразу – а с новым м1 – фиг тебе.

Honestly Max you legit are the best! I have a PC and im going to sell it for the next macbook pro! I cant wait. I heard there is supposed to be some 12 core CPU 😛

Excellent review, and I largely agree – this fanless MBA is absolutely incredible, and I’ve owned a LOT of laptops through the years. One comment to leave here, I did start off with the base model, but then upgraded to the 8-core. I found for GPU bound benchmark, the 8-core throttle less over time. The 8-core throttled less in a 90 minute Uningine Valley stress test. 7-core throttled 32.2% whereas the 8-core throttled 12.4%!

I was having trouble deciding which M1 MacBook should I buy until I watch this. Seems like MacBook Air performance with Pro doesn’t have that much of a difference. And the fact that it’s fanless, makes it even a better choice. I’m not really into heavy graphic, just basic video editing and the way this laptop handles it is an absolute steal.

I bought a M1 MBA when your initial video came out and after using it for a week I was experiencing lagging with like 10 tabs open and simple apps like word and excel so I was so confused, but I looked up the amount of memory I was using through the activity monitor and it looks like just 10 tabs and word and excel was at about 7.68Gb memory used and 4gb of swap used. Idk if it’s the no fans or if I need higher memory? But I had to return the MacBook Air 🙁

Also, just buy the spec’ed out Macbook Pro! Why? Because you CANNOT UPGRADE!!! … So what happens when the software gets heavier in processing? That’s what happens with updates… Just spec it out AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE for what you can afford and your tasks… Hell, the fact I can’t upgrade, I am just going all out with the 2TB SSD too.
