The memory swapping algorithm is really smart when it comes to always have the memory needed already loaded into the RAM just in time. But not very smart on extreme SSD read/write usage. I think, at our typical workflow, our 8GB M1 only will last about 3.5 to 4 years. And since the SSD is soldered on, we all know what that means. Better buy the 16GB to reduce the constant and extreme SSD usage.

I bought 16GB RAM version (the rest is standard), previously had 2016 late Pro i7 with Touchbar and 8GB Ram.

Im thinking about getting this laptop for college, but I don’t know how much ram or ssd I need. Im going to major in engineering and I’m also going to do video editing. Any information or thoughts on how much ram or ssd I should get? Any info is greatly appreciated, Thank you 🙂

I agree with almost everything bit thats not the greatest laptop for web conferencing by far.
I own the new M1 MacBook Pro and my little brothers Surface pro cameras shits on mine…

You forgot to say, that it just has 2 ports and you can just connect one monitor. Those downsides should be mentioned.
If they fix those two things and the eGPU ist really close to perfect.
