Even on the 15″ with a higher TDP to work with and a discreet GPU to fall back on, the UI seemed laggy to me under Mountain Lion, something like the calender flip animation you could literally count out the frames on. I haven’t tried the 13″ yet, but I can’t imagine the small drop in resolution offsetting that, is the UI lag still there?

@iphomac I’m in the exact same boat as you! The 13″ would be a better size for me but the 15″ model is so much more powerful. I’m a student as well. Let me know which one you end up choosing

You should consider the 15″ model as it features more powerful graphics. The 13″ will do fine, but the lower performance (and therefore lower price) is better suited for video editors, photo editors, web designers and alike that benefit from a retina display.

I would go for the iMac. I think it could have more power, but the biggest advantage is the larger screen, although it isn’t retina so you might prefer the 13″ Retina.

System Information for Mac OSX. It’s preinstalled on all macs. Go to the top apple logo and the thing that shows up is about my mac and bam you get tons of info about your computer

I personally have the 2012 i7 13 inch non retina macbook pro which i got in july. I really like it and gets the job done in almost everything I do! I was thinking about selling my macbook and shelling out an extra 200 for the retina but i realized i would be stooping down to an i5 processor. Instead, I decided to invest 150 bucks for a 250gb ssd in my macbook and it’s probably one of the best choices I’ve made. Sure, it isn’t retina but the normal macbooks have pretty good screens already!
