Something to be aware of when you hear a company claim they are environmentally neutral. There are two benchmarks: carbon neutrality, and net-zero emissions.
Carbon neutrality means that they are purchasing carbon offset credits at, at least, an equal about to the amount of carbon they produce. Carbon offsets are reductions of carbon emissions when generating energy: from a more efficient gas generator, to using renewable energy. So carbon neutral really is just halving the carbon expenditure. Google claims to be carbon neutral.
Net-zero emissions is the harder if the two benchmarks. It means you’re actually removing as much carbon as was used by reforesting and using other scientific means so that the total carbon emissions of the company is 0 (theoretically). Carbon offset credits can be used to decrease the positive emissions but there needs to be an equal about of carbon actually removed. Apple claims they are on their way to net-zero emissions for their whole supply chain.
Didn’t know you are a poet as well.
