To those who are buying the air and plans to keep it for 3 – 4 yrs, 8 core gpu, 512 gb ssd and 16 – 24 gb ram is the best. Buy your self an external ssd instead of maxing the air to 1 tb. Using external ssd will benefit the longevity of your mac air ssd since you will not use it all the time. Also you can use a cloud storage. One tip as well, store the files that you’ll probably delete at some point in the external ssd, because one of the factor that deteriorates a laptop’s internal ssd is the frequent deletion/erasing of files in it. The only big takeaway for the air imo is it can only support 1 monitor.

Aside from the pencil and touch screen the 12.9” iPad Pro does have a few advantages over a MBA or MBP. It has Face ID which is much nicer than Touch ID on a tablet or laptop. It also is available with a 5G modem which is great when traveling. Finally it runs all iOS apps, unlike an Apple Silicon MacBook. Often the MacOS versions of apps are better but this is not always the case (sometimes the Mac version of an app is an Electron app or you have to use the website). iOS has a lot of great video streaming apps, messaging apps and games. I can get my work email via the iOS version of Outlook or control my A/C.

Very nice review and/or experience insight re: the new M2 MBA. For “future proofing considerations”, I would still get as much RAM as possible and 1 TB of SSD for the Apple price of $2,100 (more or less). I KNOW that is a lot of money and “for a few dollars more”, the 14″ M1 MBP offers compelling capabilities – but that option comes at a cost. An M1MBP w/24GB RAM and 1 TB SSD is $1000 more. Personally, I would pick the M2 MBA for it’s much lighter weight and silent operation. BTW, for $750, I would purchase the M1 iPad Air so I could have that touch screen, Apple Pencil experience – AND – coupled to that M2 MBA, also have a dual screen extended display mobile capability – for about the same price as that M1 14″ MBP example mentioned previously. Just saying.

These days 8G RAM is utterly worthless. A few browser windows and a couple Apps running puts you easily over 8G RAM. $65 Million a year compensation to the Apple CEO for this?

god I can still return my m1 air within it’s 14 days period but if I order this i won’t have a laptop for a week or more which is gonna suck for school and id’ also have to spend 230$CAD
but man that display and keyboard are amazing, that keyboard is so much better, the m1 air is so hard and shallow. he display is a small difference on paper but feels so big in real life

theory, the notch is that big because when faceid is eventually here people won’t go “the notch is bigger omg that sucks” again
