Back in 2012 I bought a MacBook Air, right before Apple started downgrading their laptops. The Air’s wifi card eventually died in 2018 and Apple tried to charge me a million dollars to replace it (Louis Rossmann didn’t have the part either) and I hated that gen of Airs ( Remember the butterfly keys debacle) so I went Widows instead and haven’t looked back… until now. I’m intrigued but will wait for the inevitable holiday sale later this year.
That version of starlight is so pretty. Also, I think a lot of people forgot MacBook airs have been pricier before.
Wait if you get the 67 watt adapter it comes with a USB-C Cable instead of MagSafe?
Will it be able to handle about 50mp paintings in Photoshop? It would be cool to have a laptop for work on the go that is this light, but I don’t know if this can handle it.
Love this new starlight color! Everybody talking about that midnight color but I think this is my choice ☺️
Lisa, you mentioned the 67W charger option requires you to give up MagSafe. Can you explain what you mean by that? Thank you for the video!
I’d like to try Macs but the super premium on higher options just kind of ruins it for me.
Lisa, you are a rock star. Love your tech reviews and bubbly personality!
I think the $1,000 M1 Air is the better option, as this new laptop does not exist in a vacuum.
Thank you so much. Great review.
The thing I don’t like about the thermal throttling issues is that it is very unnecessary cause a $2 fan would fix it. The only reason the Air doesn’t get a fan is because of the 13 inch pro model and to me, that’s lame. Personally I think people should complain about the SSD downgrade and the thermal throttling issues because complaining is what makes changes happen. People didn’t like only having USB-C ports, well now you get more ports. People didn’t like the how awful Intel/AMD combo was, well now you get M1/M2. Etc… If enough people complain about the thermal issues of the air, Apple might one day put a fan in there that will run once needed and guess what? It will only be beneficial to the users.
But if you pass it off as a non issue even when the laptop is plenty capable of doing tasks above it’s weight class, well then Apple will continue to sell a laptop that won’t reach it’s full potential and instead, will force you to buy a much more expensive version instead if you want that sustained performance.
I wish they made a real air, 12 inch below 900 gram.
They need a 15 inch air
Do you have any thoughts on the 8 vs 10 core GPU?
In my mind the most important thing to upgrade is going to be the ram first, followed by probably the storage and then tertiary the GPU but it seems a bit excessive
Looks old …like a macbook pro 2013
Heavens yes sister, finally not a midnight review. Also this was an excellent review.
16 gig M1 Air just seems like a better deal. Tough choice.
I’d like to add some context to “COVID life — manufacturers are finally upgrading the cameras”
Yes, BUT: Compromise. there were reasons that previous laptops had bad cameras. Good glass — sufficiently large and high-quality capture is hard to do because of space constraints. When we all decided we needed better cameras on our laptops, manufacturers had to make compromises to make that happen. Apple chose to thicken the lids of their computers and add notches. Many other manufacturers moved the cameras around or used large top bezels. If you don’t like the notch, or if you think Apple took too long to upgrade the camera, understand that the two go hand in hand.
I keep thinking that since I would prefer 16gb RAM and 512gb SSD that I should just get the base 14” MBP
no more rose gold ;____;
