I have a pc and I’m thinking of selling it and buying a MacBook Air for school. I’ve been hesitant on doing it, do you think it would be better to get the MacBook?
Would not recommend the Air over a Pro, even for the base model. The Pro runs cooler and much quieter than the Air. If you do any more than standard webbrowsing (get an iPad) I would definitely pick the Pro 💻
You are the best
Cost?
can we add heat pipe between fan and cpu heatsink by welding some thin copper pipe?
How about the performance when you hook it up to a usb-c 4k screen for daily use?
Would this be good for photoshop and illustrator????

Needs some suggestions because I’m a light user i don’t I don’t know whether to get the i3 or i5 model. Id be doing web browsing, documentation, media consumption and the occasional zoom call and potential light photo editing.
I have the base model and I love it to death. My issues first I use Chrome for work and it is a memory hog. I wished remembered this in the beginning. Nevertheless, it does the job that it is intended to do. Thanks for the update. Happy Fathers Day.
I’m copping
Nice review! I have the same model, but actually added a 1.5MM thermal pad to the Heatsink underneath the bottom cover. Now I can watch 4k youtube(Firefox) completely without stutters. 4k Youtube also used to get thermals to 99C Now it stays well under 75C. 😀 A great laptop overall!
Good computer and good review, but I would have a slightly different recommendation between this computer and the MacBook pro. The 4core 8th gen Pro model is twice the speed as the Air’s 10th gen 4 core in sustained loads, so if you need the processor power for anything they are not in the same ballpark. That said the Air is actually faster than the MacBook pro for quick bursty applications like web surfing and office apps, especially because of its faster ddr4 ram. The main limitation of the Air is the power delivery, so the 4core version will ramp up the speed and within seconds have to scale way back down, whereas the dual-core version takes less power and can hit the max speed for a longer period before scaling the speed back down. In the end, for tasks that the Air is good at the dual-core may be the best option. The 4core Air does over time give about 15% more processing under sustained loads, but the Pro would give you 100% faster processing. For most people the dual-core air is a very good option, but if you need more processing power, defiantly go the 8th gen MacBook Pro.
I found the webcam really bad and somewhat blackish and blurry. How can I improve it?
I’m a windows based network engineer but am learning to use osx properly so I can move into that area as well, this video really sold me on getting one of these devices
If you have a 2018 model with the i5-8210y, are the logic boards interchangeable? Can you “upgrade” it from a dual core to quad core?
Hey
I’m a student so I have to watch 7-8hrs of videos from a particular app
