From what I’ve heard, the base model is MORE then enough for what most people would use a MacBook Air for, Unless you’d want more storage, RAM or want that 8-core GPU instead of the 7-core GPU, there’s no other reason to upgrade from base model.

Thank you for an actually useful review. I am sick of other youtubers basing reviews on specs, benchmarks, and video editing. All other reviews seem to by by youtubers for youtubers, and not for an average user.

I am interested in purchasing a MacBook air, but I am still wondering about the Ram, is it good to have 8gb or 16gb? knowing that I will use it just for university or project stuff?

Another thing to consider is that the 512GB model cost $200-300 more than the 256GB model. But for $200 you can buy the Kingston XS2000 2TB external SSD which supports USB 3.2 Gen 2×2. Yeah, the Macbook Air M1 doesn’t support that, but future high end Macs probably will (in like 3-5 years), so the drive might come in handy some day. And you get an additional 2TB (externally) instead of 256GB (internally).

Just got one of these from the school that I am attending, I have an alienware with windows 10, so I was debating about just selling this and getting a surface, sounds like a good laptop, even though it a MacAir. Great Review, good information.

I was planing on getting m1 16gb /256 gb, customize from Apple Store at about 1150 usd post tax. Then there was a flash deal for a base model here at about 800 usd post tax. So for me, upgrading the ram to 16gb costs me about 350 usd! I just got myself a base model 😂. For 350 usd , I can use that for my next or another computer if I would need one. Even reselling it in 2 years, I don’t think I lost much of the value.
However, if the upgrade is at 200 usd. I would upgrade the ram to 16 for some headroom and performance in some app.

Thank you I just ordered one and have a 1TB external hard drive and I’m a hubby photographer and look forward to using this. My 2014 4GB just can’t handle newer programs now if not for photo processing it’s still a good laptop.

This has made me breathe a sigh of relief. I will only be using my Macbook Air for Garageband and surfing. In the day and age, we live in where streaming music and films is the way forward. Why would we need mass amounts of storage unless your job requires such? I do have two external HDD anyway. My question is… does the Macbook Air support USB 2.0 & or 3.0 if I have the USB-C adapter?
