Hi, great review. Interesting comment about the thermals. I am genuinely torn if I should upgrade to the i5 or stick to the i3. I want the i5 however I hate noise, therefore the reviews suggesting fan noise is a problem have scared me off the i5. You are part of a few that are saying temperature is not a problem. You still think fan noise is not a problem for general use on the i5?
love that Kamehameha shirt <3
DOES IT THERMAL THROTTLING?
I am a college student who is currently majoring in information systems. I have a dell xps 13 with a 7th gen for i5 processor with 8gb of ram. I do programming in my major, is it possible to go with the new MacBook Air? Or should get the pro?
What’s the word on i7 vs i5? is there any noticeable performance gains, and how the battery life is impacted?
Thank you for commenting on thermals. After watching some other reviews I was beginning to worry about my i5 Macbook Air purchase I go pick up today. One reviewer claimed he was getting 100 degrees Celsius just web browsing.
After watching your review, I just hope that my grandma can even know which is the turn on button. Anyway love your review.
with the dell xps 13 starting at 849.99 with a i5. I dont see much value in this. I guess if you just have to have Mac OS
Hello! Luv your reviews! I have question, should I upgrade my 2015 15″ MacBook pro to the new MacBook air? (Into mobile app dev FYI)
Hi Lisa, I know you switched over to PC a few years back due to Apple’s horrible miss steps with Macbooks, etc. Is Apple’s new lineup enough to entice you to return to MacOS? For me, Apple has lost me forever. I went to the ThinkPad side and I’m never returning to Mac. I still think PC has better features and I’m looking forward to Microsoft’s Windows 10 update for that new start menu design (it’s so sleek, I love it!). As always, thank you so much for everything you do, Lisa. Your videos keep us sane during insane times!
YouTube algorithm knows what’s up. Felt like this was my grandma schooling me on the new MacBook. Love this video😂
“If you’re an iThing owner” hahahaha
I purchased my 2020 MacBook Air earlier this week and the only upgrade I made was increasing the 8GB RAM to 16GB (stuck with the base model of 256 GB of storage). I only plan to use this to browse the internet, Microsoft office applications and maybe the occasional YouTube video. Did I purchase the correct specs and will this laptop be a good fit for my needs performance wise?
Cooling issues with this one.
The heatsink is not connected with the fan. Dumb decision from engineers. The chrome with 1080p YouTube video will drive it 99C.
This laptop is good for students
Don’t forget about tax I’m a college student and I’m getting the i5 version and I get $100 off mine and it comes up to $1,068.93
It is 2020 these $1,000+ macbook airs (i3, i5) have:
1. no face unlock
2. no touch screen
3. no pen
4. a subpar webcam
5. an old keyboard (marketed as new)
6. an underpowered cpus (new ipad pro has better geekbench 5 scores)
7. cpus that run hot (i.e., overheats)
8. can’t handle gaming
9. can only handle simple web browsing and microsoft office
10. subpar battery life
11. an always-on fan
12. no micro SSD port
13. no design upgrade (since god knows when)
I guess this what they mean when they say Apple laptops “JUST” work.
I’ll stick with my $1,000 ASUS laptop (10th gen i7 cpu, 16 ram, 256 gb SSD, and 1 gb hard drive, dual fans).
Thank you for a thorough and unbiased review. I’ve been waiting for this Macbook Air and with some videos I’ve been nervous to upgrade from my 2014 air, worried about thermals. Your video put me at ease. This is always where I come for a solid tech review.
I don’t know if you did a smack down between the Mac Book Air and the Mac Book Pro, that would be great if you could? The Dell Inspiron vs the Mac Book Air would be a good smack down also. Thanks.
