I love all of your testing that you do with the eGPU and Mac products. It is amazing how much they improve computer performance and allow you to purchase a lower cost device overall depending upon your needs for Every day use. Thanks!
For many months I have had doubts on purchasing a laptop. I wanted a portable workstation, lightweight. I watched every possible model, also the ones out at Ces 2019. All new laptops are horrible, bad design, holes, stripes and leds everywhere. Thanks to Jeff reviews finally I decided to do a leasing and buy the latest Mac Book Pro. Now I have the best of the two worlds: a portable workstation because the Vega gpu, 32GB and i9. Dual boot, I can use all MacOS programs and all 3D CAD CAM applications not available on Mac. Also I can do heavy 3D or video rendering using an external gpu at the moment only on Windows because the lack of Nvidia drivers for MacOS. Probably I could configure an heavy workstation with 2 gpus, leds, pumps and pipes at the same price…but 30kgs aren’t portable. Jeff: Apple will thank you and Nvidia will release soon their drivers.
Buy the highest end 1.6 ghz macbook air or just buy the cheapest rtx 2080 laptop (i7-8750h)
If toy want to say “gaming” you should at least try some games. You always play Rocket League and it doesn’t tell anything.
You should try also another resolutions because nobody plays at 5k x 2k
Make a Macbook without donghell needed.
I think that while possible for any MacBook to power up externally with an egpu it’s just stupid because your cpu will overheat inside the tiny tiny enclosure
That CPU is too weak for this GPU. Bottlenecking.
I think its clear, that you can turn your mac into a PC via boot camp and run PC games on it using an eGPU. I wouldn’t expect any less from this type of setup.
Mac OS is for Simpletons. Get a PC for games.
Can you do a tutorial on how to fix error 12? My device manager always tells me that i dont have enough resources
This is exactly the video I have wanted to see
Dont understand what you mean by running into problems if booting up with egpu on. I do this all the time without issues, mbp 2017 with razer core x Gtx1070ti
well. rtx 2080 is just a waste for potential loss. thunderbolt 3 has limited transfer speed to display. 1070ti, 1070 is good enough
Wonder what the thermals are ?
You wan to play games? Go with Windows. Less hassle, less cost
This is about as practical as wearing a full winter coat in July while running a 10k marathon. Don’t get me wrong It’s cool this can be done but you have to ask yourself why would you in the first place? Major bottlenecks like the dual core CPU in the Mac Book Air can present major issues that seriously hinder performance in modern multi threaded games or make them completely unplayable. Not to mention Thunderbolt’s sometimes 20 to 25% performance lose that can happen depending on the game. This was a cool presentation but ultimately it makes no sense from a cost to performance point. You can play some casual titles on a Mack book Air at low setting but what casual gamer would buy a RTX 2080 and pair it with a Dual Core Mac book Air? short answer no one.
Play games on a Mac but then loads windows into it. So add another 120 for windows license even with that Vega 56 that you can get for the 15 inch that thing will never be able to game
cool1
total price?
Lol enjoy 30fps low settings 1280×720 and choppy gameplay with DUAL CORE
I followed your steps, and still reached Error 12
