Tried the Mac mini/eGPU/bootcamp gaming method. Way too many issues, returned my Mac, my amd card, my eGPU, and bought an actual gaming pc. Biggest waste of time and money trying to Frankenstein a Mac into any sort of gaming pc. Foolish me.
Will you be doing a Radeon VII exclusive?! Gaming and video editing benchmarks compared to Vega 64.
I know there are a lot of people who like to do this but geez that’s a lot of steps. Just to play Rocket League. Which frankly can be run with just a quick download on to your Nintendo Switch in a fraction of the time all this runaround takes to get it working on a MacBook Air running Windows with an eGPU. Frankly, the Nintendo Switch option not only is a time-saver but it’s considerably less expensive than this mess. And you can play it in portable or docked mode. Just….wow, I can’t believe how much effort had to go in to this video.
Edit: That being said, I still want a 2018 MacBook Air as my daily computer replacement since it’s way better than the 2009 MBP I’m currently sporting. But yeah for gaming, nobody should have ever thought this machine was for gaming. Again, get a Nintendo Switch for powerful gaming both at home and portable. It’s a lot cheaper than buying a MacBook (any model), an eGPU, and all the cables and all the time saved from having to download drivers and resetting a bunch of times. That’s all I’m saying.
Really would have been helpful if you tested 1 or 2 other more demanding titles that many people play such as Fortnite, PubG, CoD or BFV. Good video though
Lovely video. Are u happy with the macbook air? Thinking about getting it. I am doing developing and browsing stuff so I don’t need much performance. Currently using a Dell Latitude 7490 with an i5.
I like what you did there. Can you test this setup also with games which need more power? Like PUBG, Battlefield V or something else.
Are there ports left so u could play with keyboard and mouse ?
Until egpus work flawlessly on my 5k 2017 imacs internal display without overhead loss ill forever regret spending 2500 on it and continue wishing a bought a gaming pc. Sonnet breakaway is a conplete joke. 1500 american to upgrade your graphics and you cant even do it well using internal model 5k imac thats supposed to be apples flagship device! I read about their stock suffering and its laughable they just refuse to make a gaming imac! Idiots! Id spend 5k on it in a second but noooooooo.. apple is retarted!
Nice vid! Would have been nice to mention the temperature and the fan behavior of the Mac book air while running games with and without eGPU. Is this noisy in the room?
I might subscribe then 😜
why don’t you use Vega 64? just curious
Oh hell yeah
Dual core only option on MacBook Air makes it impossible to play CPU intensive games (such as PUBG)
My 4k TV is not thunderbolt 3 only hdmi I can get it done with a tungle adapter to my mbp 13 2018
What about the temperature and the fan noise? is it too hot/loud?
Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t the rtx 2080 GPU a overkill for razer core x? Don’t think you can use it to the full potential.
I think if i already use windows laptops (not mac) would be much easier set up???
Just one more egpu video to beg for likes, before during and after the “tutorial”
When Apple releases its display this year, I’ll consider a MacBook/Gaming PC -> Apple Display setup. I personally think this is probably the best setup, but it also depends on the price of the display. I hope it’s not prohibitively expensive…
That’s a very expensive investment to play games
So is there a grapics card inside a egpu when you buy it?
