I 100% need to know, could i binge rtx minecraft on a setup such as this?
Why a 2080? That would get bottle necked like crazy
Does your MacBook charge when plugged into the egpu?
That eGPU can cost another MacBook Air already
Wait a min, I didn’t know u could download games from Steam and Store it 🧐
Seriously considering getting an eGPU for my Macbook Pro 2016. I just love PC gaming and I feel it offers so many more options than console gaming. Would rather shell out for an eGPU than for a new console.
Hi, have you already tried to replicate this egpu config with 2020 Air?
The need to unplug the eGPU every time you restart is highly annoying.
can you also use the rtx 2080 even if you’re using the mac OS?
I’m not hating on the author for this, but shelling out $400 for the eGPU chassis and another $800+ for the RTX 2080 is a total waste for the MacBook Air, or almost any laptop. My point is that the CPU in the MacBook Air, as well as the TB3 bandwidth, will not allow the full potential of that GPU. You could just buy the Gigabyte Aorus GTX 1080 or newer RTX 2070 Gaming Box eGPU for around $800 and get the SAME performance and save yourself around $400. Value for the dollar is what it should be about, especially if you are not sacrificing anything by saving money!!
Is there any discharging issue? I can’t seem to fix my discharging issue
Hello everyone!! could any help me to know if an egpu with rx 580 would be a good combination with ram 16gb mac book pro and intel i5? Thanks!!
So… if I understand this correctly. The gfx card will be doing all of the graphical work on gaming, however, the MacBook would still get hot and the fans will still spin up I’m sure since some games also use cpu power as well? Am I gonna have the computer and the gfx card spinning fans going on ? Or is the Mac not gonna get hot ?
can u do this without an external monitor?
Hello I’m having the same issues with my MacBook Air 2017 but I don’t hv any “egpu” so I wanna know if I can make my game (Apex Legends) function properly without any problems.
Useless test EVER)
That would be great if the box egpu is with a GC because 399€ just the box is a little bit expansive.
I just went to Apple’s Support website about eGPU and found this footnote: “macOS High Sierra 10.13.4 and later don’t support eGPUs in Windows using Boot Camp or when your Mac is in macOS Recovery or installing system updates.”
Does this means that I cannot use the eGPU if I boot into Windows if I have a MacBook Air running the latest Catalina version?
im a video editor who wants to do light gaming. would an imac and an egpu be a solid buy? i was also debating the dell xps 15 and spending up to 2200 for upgrades. Just not sure how it would perform 6k raw video editing.
really useful ty
