Very good review, well thought opinions.
I love it. Prices keep going up, yet there is no cable extender, cleaning cloth… do they even give you stickers anymore?! jk I know they give stickers… but you spend so much money, compromise on so many things and they can’t even give you a cleaning cloth!
when will they upgrade the screen to 4k?
I can afford it. Dinner.
Macs Fan Control — I’d never heard of that. Just installed it on my 2013 MacBook Air — and it’ll now hang out at 2.5GHz instead of 2.2 GHz!! (I used Prime95, small FFT, 4 threads to test and Intel Power Gadget to monitor CPU speed.) Officially the CPU in this thing (a Core i7-4650U) can reach 3.3GHz on one core, and 2.9GHz when both cores are in turbo mode. It doesn’t stay at 2.9 GHz very long, though, in the MacBook Air. It gets thermal throttled pretty quickly. But, hey — with Macs Fan Control, now it’s getting throttled down to 2.5 GHz instead of 2.2!! I’m happy!
Selling my kidney for this.
i noticed that the mac tower uses a xenon processors which are better for eduting and number crunching along with cad…why dont they use them in imac and macbooks? the programs are more cpu intensive then gpu? Am i wrong in this assumption?
So basically, don’t buy it. Got it.
Here’s the link to a review by a NASA Engineer on the Core i9 if anyone is interested in how it performs in terms of CPU intensive computational work. As a software engineer and someone who doesn’t do a lot of video editing (light 1080p 60fps), I am extremely happy with my Core i9, aside from the price, of course. Lol. http://hrtapps.com/blogs/20180712/
one of the best reviews so far. just as usual
Actually I would not recommend getting the mid tier or the high-level I-9 processor. The reason is that under load the base level 2.2 GHz CPU actually outperforms the other two units. It makes more power because it has a greater range to amp up the turbo boost before thermal throttling takes place. Even though apple introduce the patch addressing the issue with the core I9 throwing problem, the mid tier and high-level CPUs still cannot perform as consistently as the 2.2 GHz model. For consistency I would recommend the 2.2 GHz model with a bump up to the 560 X graphics and the 512 GB SSD. You’ll pay about the same as the mid tier base model. However, you will be getting much more consistent results and better performance from the turbo boost on your CPU. I do believe there’s also a marginal increase in battery life since all of these three CPU options run off of the same battery.
Powered By ur ignorance & our arrogance.
– Apple “we don’t give a fuck”
Do people who are interested in buying a mac even watch reviews or are we all windows people here?
Lisa, what laptop do you use?
Wow. Fantastic video and great analyse. You help me to decide because I have 2016 model and I am thinking to buy 2018 15.4 model. Thank you from Oslo
is that mac grey or silver ???
Nice laptop, but Apple is smoking series CRACK to charge 5 grand for a laptop.
Apple is pricing themselves right out of the industry, it’s only a matter of time, their prices are ridiculous on everything, they always were horrible prices but they are getting worse, tech should come down with prices not go up?
Great review, thanks for posting, re: the video card & gaming performance not being on par with PC, would be curious to get your review on the Blackmagic eGPU to see if that puts them back ahead..
I returned the 2018 15” MacBook Pro after 2 weeks. That keyboard just sucks. I tried to like it. Also the touch bar is useless. If the new MacBook Air has the same, then I will be done with the Mac. I’m probably done anyway because the prices are disgustingly ridiculous compared to other great options in the PC world. Unfortunately that’s where all the cool innovation is happening now.
