Dave, did you check the actual temperatures when you did the FLIR test? I’m just curious when it’s running games and max’d out on the video display how hot it is going to get. I use mine sitting in my lap most of the time and when it’s crunching numbers and using a lot of processing power it gets quite warm on my legs. Of course, my current Mac is a 2007 MBP 15″ 2.2Ghz max’d out at 4gb of RAM. I upgraded it to Yosemite and sometimes it’s like I’m using a Window 3.0 machine – in other words, it’s SLOOOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWW. 🙁 When I get my new one (after I decide on the right one to buy) I’m going to revert this one to a previous version where it will be a speedy machine my wife can then use without having to use Winders. But I’m hoping the new ones will run less than 200 degrees on SMC’s fan program because that gets a little uncomfortable.

My big doubt, as I want to play Witcher 3, and upgrade my old 2009 macbook for ios development, should I buy the m370x version or the base model and a PS4?

I am a movie fan so I love the bigger screen, about the GPU… Well, I personally prefer to have the best performance though I don’t play many games on the Mac. It’s apple product, I will buy the best one they have. It will always last longer. I believe the best experience is base on the best hardware.

Really pleasant videos you make. A small improvement would be if you would put in the weight in kg also, pounds doesn’t give me much information. I really like your background music, but some changes through the video would improve it. Different music for different topics, maybe?

The biggest boost in the new GPU is the better OpenCL support. Adobe really are taking the piss with their crappy support of OpenCL in their apps. They still have a thing with NVIDIA and CUDA which as a company that sells to people running multiple hardware and software platforms is in my opinion outright disgraceful. Your graphs comparing AE and FCPX show what happens when you have proper support for the open standard OpenCL, not a vendor specific thing that’s actually gimped on their consumer cards because they want folk to buy the more expensive workstation ones (though OS X gets workstation driver support for even consumer cards. You can download CUDA drivers for example).

It’s weird that the M370X isn’t a bigger improvement considering the 750m is basically the same as the 650m in the original Retina MacBook Pro from 2012. You’d think three years would make a bigger difference. At least the SSD speeds have increased dramatically.

***** (or anyone) i’m thinking of buying a macbook pro probably going to be a 13 inch (2.9ghz cpu 512gb storage 8gb ram) Do u suggest buying it now or wait for another year (see if apple will put in anything different like usb c) or just getting some other laptops? i have a 5 years old pc that is still working ok, but i need something for travelling, i sometimes do a little video editing for fun and some light gaming like minecraft or lol~ ultimate question is it the “right time” to get it now? and should i get a macbook pro?

***** I’ll be joining college in a month, doing Visual communication Design. I’ll most probably take up film along with it as well. Now I am looking for a laptop, I am looking at the Macbook pro 15 at the moment and I really can’t take any other offering because I like the idea of a discrete graphics card. But, with that said could you suggest me any other laptop with similar or better specs? Anything but the Razer, I still can’t get that in this part of the world.

Considering the price you should mention the razer blade. It’s a lot better for gaming. You can run ultra settings and get up to 100 fps on some games
