I’m really wanting to upgrade my laptop. Currently have a 2009 mBook Pro 15” with the 2.8 intel core duo. What would you recommend? I’ve been looking into this one since it’s been out. Some programs frequently used are photoshop, nuke, maya and Zbrush.

Thanks for the benchmarks! As a pro video editor who games a lot, this is all really useful info.

Just curious — what resolutions were you using for the two Dota 2 / CSGO tests? I think you said they were both done in OSX? And what resolution did you use for your GTA 5 tests? If I could run that game at medium settings in 1080p, maybe the upgrade is worth it after all.

If you buy a MacBook for gaming, you’re going to have a bad time. Pretty much Apple only equips discreet cards for video editing, and even then the cards are pretty dated considering the otherwise newer processors and hardware.

Hey Dave, I don’t do any gaming, just video/photo editing. How does the battery life of the base model compare to the model with the M370x? Also, is is worth it to upgrade to the fastest processor? I’m using Windows right now, and I’m planning to make the jump to OS X. Great channel BTW, I love the quality of your content. Keep up the good work, looking forward to more videos.

yeah, 15 inch is too expensive. Not really sure why it’s so expensive since it’s only increased in size.

I don’t blame people for skipping the refresh, but I was in dire need of a new laptop. I had a 13″ MacBook Pro (mid 2012, non-retina). I know that for the majority of the time I own the laptop, it won’t be the fastest, because I plan to use it for the next 4 years. I’m just glad I waited for the Force Touch trackpad, as it’s the kind of feature I would miss had a bought last year’s MacBook.

But, going from Ivy Bridge i5 to Broadwell i7, HDD to SSD, and 4GB of RAM to 16GB of RAM is an absolute dream. Also, the large, retina display rules. 🙂

The one issue I do have is a terrible lag when AirPlaying to an Apple TV. It’s unusable. My old laptop was fine with it, though.

why would people buy this when you have the Razer Blade 2015? I mean it got really strong processors and gpu(970m) and as thin as this macbook pro!
