I am looking at getting the base model of the 13in pro 2015 but I am put off that it doesn’t have usb-c and I know next year I would have to use an adapter! I want to use it to make short videos 6-8min long in 1080p should I wait till the late or early 2016 model if it has the updates I am looking for? I don’t have a laptop I am using a 27in Imac. advice please
Hi
Thanks for your fantastic Review
It will help me a lot 😀
eurocom will kill this
thanks so much! I’m starting college soon and in the laptop market (film major) and this was the perfect comparison for me! never considered the 2014 model. great job!
Should I wait for the 2016?
Video is great but your missing the key point of the AMD graphics upgrade. Every test was only 1080p except for one which was a 4k rendering. Accordingly that M370X is 20% faster than the 750M processing 4k content. That is a huge difference. Everyone is upgrading to 4k even with phones and camera’s. This upgrade makes this Macbook Pro future proof and will save a whole lot of folks a whole lot of time when working with 4k files.
why i need video editing? and what do i do after editing video??
Lives in Australia, base model costs $2799 😪
im a dj i need a 15 ” macbook pro just for my music..which is the best one to get?
Thanks, Dave. I am getting ready to purchase a new 15″ Macbook and this is was exactly what I needed.
Got my 15′ 2015 dGPU 512gb version for USD2,626.51 with Applecare and Wireless Solo2 Beats (friends teacher discount hehe) in H.K.. Could have been USD2,523.26 (with Applecare) if it wasn’t for the Wireless Beats!
The retina macbook pros have been a huge disappointment from the beginning. It makes no sense to buy a discrete gpu mbp because apple always puts an underpowered gpu to probably maximize profits (like they haven’t been already). You NEED a good gpu with more than 2gb of ram if you’re going to be running a screen higher than 1080p. If a 14 inch razer blade can handle a gtx 970m then there is no excuse why a 15inch mbp retina cant handle at least a gtx960m. The only reason why they switched to AMD was because it was cheaper than the nvidia option and they could maximize profits on their already overpriced laptops. For-shame Apple!
Ugh, I’m not sure what to do. I currently have an ASUS G750JX and use a 13″ Macbook Pro (2011) for work. I really like OSX for my line of work and like to use it at home too, the issue is that my current laptop might just be a bit more powerful in terms of graphics. My work kind of is my hobby too, and the tools I use on my macbook aren’t available, or have a lack of support on windows. I tried switching to linux several times, but it’s just too much of a hassle with a lot of things. OSX is the ideal OS for me, I just dislike the limited hardware options and high pricing. But currently, I’m just avoiding stuff I want to do cause of the lack of tools on Windows.
Hello Dave, Nice video. How can I check and make sure it’s750M or M370X?
hey dave!!
awesome video..
one question though.. i have a rMBP 13″ i5 8GB 256SSD…i use some heavy graphic softwares like Revit & ArchiCAD…so i was thinking of upgrading to the rMBP 15″ late 2015 with AMD…
do you think i should go for it?
Great review focusing on the GPU!
I use the 2014 with 750m for work and built a gaming PC at home. It really isn’t made for gaming.. I once played Guild Wars 2 on it because my graphics card was broken and the new one hasn’t arrived, and it drains battery faster than it can charge itself.. I was afraid of overloading the power adapter. And when the thermal throttle starts to kick in, random models start to appear just unicolor without rendering any texture; it got so hot I couldn’t touch it and had to plug in my gaming keyboard and put on a jacket and wide open my window XD god my guild hated me so much that night. I was thinking Asus UX501 could be a nice alternative, but it’s just not as neatly built as Macbook Pro- not a true unibody it looks shaky from all the videos, screen not so nice, the ports seem cheap (the macbook ports use its unibody as shielding so it’s ultradurable, while the Asus just drill a hole and use the port connectors that you can buy from farnell XD).
I guess still you have to stay with gaming PCs for now with all the gaming peripherals and immersive display to truly enjoy gaming, when you are outside or on the go, just play some indie games like the spookycat, or go out, go take a coffee or beer and enjoy the people and surroundings.
ONE MORE THING: your 15 inch’s lid seems to have a different texture at 1:38, is it new/custom/cover?
Great review! Well done!
good review thank you
good job! thump up guys
Nice, knowledgable review that was strait to the point and didn’t waste my time with a bunch of fluff, stuttering, or self loving.
