I’m just thankful because last week my boss bought a Macbook Pro 16 inch M1 Max, 32GB Unified Memory, 1TB SSD Storage, 10-Core CPU, 32-Core GPU for me to use at the company which I didn’t expect.
And yeah, I am aware and feel as though I will be faced with a lot of assignments or responsibilities.
The weight is the only issue I have with it. Shoulder ache is inevitable if you carry it regularly.
BTW Good review! Thank you, Mark!
I bought the exact same laptop a couple of months ago with 32 GB Ram, 32 GPU cores and 1 TB SSD. For my current purposes (photography, 4K video editing), it has tremendous performance that will certainly be sufficient for the next 5 or more years. It replaces an old Mac Pro from 2010. I don’t regret a penny from this great machine. You might want to mention how fantastic the XDR display is, so you can definitely edit photos or videos on the go in true color. I run my laptop off a Sony 55″ 4K TV or an Eizo CG monitor. Mine was a new demo unit for which I paid just € 3,300.- instead of € 3,850,- 😁
This is pretty much my setup at the moment, except I have the last generation Intel I9 Mac. (My company pays for the laptop .. I think I get to upgrade next year). This works fine for me (Xcode development, video editing) but I don’t get the battery life benefits that you do.
Thank you for the valuable information,it’s a great device .How much I dream of, but it’s expensive, as a matter of help , whether you have a used MacBook or an old generation that you want to do without ,I need it and thank you ,and allow me to intrude on you😉
Just Amazing! I love Honest Reviews
I own the same $3,700.. only 10 weeks.. I still use my MID-2012 iTeL as well… I work out of my home office so it really is desktop…
I recently upgraded from 15.4 ” mid 2012 MBP i7 16gb, which has been used for music production, and Dj software,
I have loads of Go Pro 4K footage that was time consuming to install,
I went and brought the 16″ M1 Max 32GB, 1TB model, OMG…….the machine is so fast, but worry about portability, not so much the size and weight, but could you work in a coffee shop with it, would i even dare to take it into one and use it, its simply the best MBP for a generation, i work in London, and there is a crime epedemic just like NYC at the moment, and that said this limits the actual day to day functionality of using this in certain enviroments.
it’s not just final cut pro for the having to pause to redraw…. davinci resolve behaves the same way.
yt suggest
what about battery life unplugged?
Do you ever wish you spent the additional $400 and maxed out the RAM? I feel like the “in for a penny, in for a pound” mindset is easy to adopt here… personally went with the 32Gb M1 max with 2TB, and haven’t had any issues yet but cant help but feel a little anxious that 64Gb could be nice in the future, or even for “resellability.”
If you were to switch to DaVinci Resolve, you wouldn’t have to deal with the problems with audio rendering on FCP and you can already use DaVinci Resolve on an iPad Pro. Worth exploring the option IMO 🙏🏼
Thanks for a good review. How do you zoom in and out of timeline without a trackpad on Final Cut Pro when not using your laptop?
I have 16 M1 Max, 64 ram and 1tb ssd. I’m pro photographer and use it strictly for photography. But I have problems with it. When I open Psb files, it takes between 2 and 3 minutes for them to open in Ps. Psd files generally are also not snappy, it takes between 10 and 20 seconds for them to open.
In addition to that, when I’m in the process of saving the open file, and then in the same time go to create a smart object, a dialog box pops up with the forward moving progress bar, it takes about 4-5 minutes each time for this to finish. Can’t to anything but wait.
I tried resetting and redownloading photoshop. But didn’t help.
