Ordered my 16 inch maxed out top spec 2 weeks back… can’t wait 😀
Use a laptop sleeve if you worry about bending especially the one with protection foam
I’m totally with you on the weight part.
When you talk to those people next time, make the comparison with a helmet, where you feel every 50g weight difference.
You just worry too much because it is expensive.. use it as you should . The MacBook is fine
My 2015 MBP has been AMAZING! But’s she’s tired, and as the programs get bigger, it slowed down. Battery is shot, 30 min max( runs like a champ plugged in). Sooo, I am ready to pull the trigger on one of these. You spoke about too much power, I see it like this. – Today > Tomorrow – . Today is peak performance (Higher the bar, slower the decline) Tomorrow peak demand (larger program demand, reduces power to meet in the middle). I think a cheaper machine dwindles faster, costing you more. The FCPX lag you mentioned, when they fix it, will chomp another bite of the memory. Spending 4k on it isn’t nice, but I will feel good about it.
Excellent review, I found.
I waited years to upgrade from my 15″ MacBook Pro early 2012, which also meant putting my desire of getting into film making on hold. I collected so much video material from travels and such over the last few years and putting it on hold on harddrives till I could justify buying a new mac (the 2012 MacBook still runs effortlessly). That was till the new 16″ M1 Max MacBooks were release. And it absolutely delivers and puts a smile on my face every day since I bought it. Alone the screen is worth going 16″. Yes, it is an expensive machine but if its keeps running as long as my previous MacBook it’s worth every Penny to me.
I upgraded from my 2015 15″ MBP to the 2021 16″ 64GB M1 max. I use it largely for my machine learning work. Frankly, it’s an overkill for most people. I don’t take it outside my home as I am afraid of dropping it.
Your waveforms not loading in (having to pause playback and wait) is most likely due to the RAM, this data is stored in RAM and seeing as you edit 4k video that’s a lot of data whilst editting. Marques (MKBHD) said he didn’t have this issue with his Mac Pro which had 768GB of RAM (Reference video: M1 Max MacBook Pro Review: Truly Next Level!)
Hi Mark, how much RAM is there in this Mac you are reviewing?
how do u connect ur external monitor with macbook lid closed and no charger connected? i have to connect my charger always when u close my mac lid
The problem with the basic 16 inch macbook m1 Pro is that it only comes with 16 gb ram and 512 gb ssd. If you want to upgrade it to 32 gb ram and 1 TB ssd then you will almost spend the same as you would spend on an m1 max macbook
Great you have such good experience. How does your battery capacity behave after this time and sitting mostly plugged in?
3000 pounds is not a massive investment for a business lol
Im going to buy mbp m1pro but i don’t know how mush RAM i need
I would probably use it more than 3 years
And i want to edit video with it im not a pro in editing
Which do you think i shod buy?16or32?
I’d dump M1 Pro 16GB/1TB MBP 16” in heartbeat if MBA 15” released. Bought only for screen size. Don’t need power. Honestly, ready to dump 24” iMac. Stupidly caught up in 2021 YouTube hysteria!
I had a 15” Apple PowerBook G4 from 2003 until around 2010? and it was my favorite laptop of all time (even if the G4 got toasty). My new 16” MBP is almost exactly the same size while better in any way. I was originally planning on getting the 14” but it just felt so small when I actually got hand on in the store. The 16” is fantastic, and fits easily in any normal-sized, 20L or so backpack.
its not that much heavy its good 16 inch …..comparitivly all laptops and got good thermals ….14 inch always eye strain laptop should be 16 inch minimum don’t know how people look in 14 inch its too small for long time work….its better to take bigger phone than 14 inch
yes, be careful with your MBP in a backpack; i carried my mid-2015 MBP in a camera backpack and ended up inadvertently bending the chassis; noticed that it no longer sat level; now – i know, lesson lessoned.
What keyboard are you using?
