I know you said you’ll know if you need to go higher BUT I had the original 13″ M1 Macbook Air after I was challenged to try it. I bought the base spec as I’ve never successfully stayed in Mac ecosystems and it was cheap. What a laptop! It was awesome. Its portability is unbelievable, battery life was impossible and performance brilliant. Within months I wished I had got the 16 gig RAM and 500GB as I probably would still be using it, instead, I was looking at an upgrade. Well, I managed to get the 14″ Macbook pro base model and sell the Macbook Air. The Macbook pro is an excellent upgrade and I see the value BUT The air is so much lighter and portable and I never worried about the $1500AUD Air, I do worry about the $3000AUD Macbook Pro.
I could see myself considering a downgrade to a new M2 Air in the future. That is a big win for Apple Silicon.
Thanks! Enjoyed the video and found it useful.
I appreciated your commentary on the Studio Display. My wife’s 2014 iMac is getting slower and slower, so I may end up giving her this 2019 iMac and buying a 5K display to use with my 16″ M1 Pro MBP. Speaking of which: Weight is relative. I’m a little (5’8″/160 pound) old (80 years) man in good shape. My biggest problem with the 2021 MBP and my 2015 15″ MBP is how slippery they for old fingers with fingerprints about worn off, so I put them in inexpensive (twenty bux) textured cases – problem solved. For my use, the $200.00 cost increment to get the screen real estate trumps the slight increase in weight over the 14″ M1 Pro MBP. The battery life of the 2021 is three to four times the battery life of the 2015 – a huge feature.
You don’t transport your laptop between your arm and your body like you do in 4:40…. When you need to take your laptop out with you, you either use a suitcase or a backpack, scenario in which you barely feel the weight of the laptop. Peoeple who say this laptop is heavy to transport are people who never ever even tried to do it.
Too much money. I got the mini mac and it’s just fine.
I’m currently 15 and my parents helped me buy a macbook pro m1 13″ (they paid half). And well I want to upgrade to the m1 pro 16″. Do you think it’s worth it, my main reason is because of the more powerful cpu and gpu also because I prefer a bigger screen. Windows laptop is out of the question as I already have a pretty powerful gaming rig.
Hi, what keyboard is that you are using? Looks nice & chunky.
Everything is ad starting with U shenanigans.
is it still the king bro?
iMovie has the same problem on redrawing clips.
Someone at YouTube needs to start doing something about these annoying spambots that are popping up more and more often under the comments.
great video. the only thing I can’t decide on is 16 or 32.
got my 16, M1 Max ‘top spec’ 4t ssd it arrived last week, I think it’s amazing, truly is, I’ve never been able to do my workload on a laptop, and have the convenience of being able to work anywhere, one of the underated ultimate changes is the COMPLETE SILENCE from this machine… nothying… it is a game changer love it.
yes, thank you. I pick up my 16 McbPro Max 16″ 64ram 4tb this evening. I know it might be too much to some people…but I’m running Pro Tools with a lot of plug-ins while mixing tv shows and other broadcastable mediums such as music videos, concerts, etc. (glad to drop that cheese grater Mac Pro finally), all Adobe products with multiples on at a time since I took publishing a monthly magazine as well. So with all of that said, I find myself at a cattle ranch and get an email (via Starlink! yay) from a tv or music client and I need to turn on that mode and with the computer I’m currently working with, a McbPro 16″ 2019 that is ‘maxxed out’ at 32 ram, I can finally just ‘get things done’ as I need to and wherever I need to. I’m super excited to finally get a laptop that keeps up with me. Almost got the mac studio but then I’d have to get another laptop anyway, so why not just get one…for now, haha. Now I just need a nice monitor and I’m at the ready. thank you Mark.
owning just the m1 pro instead of the max due to the price . but 16 inch is the way to go due to bigger battery life and the improved m1 pro allow no limitation for general day use. even zoom meeting last from 8am to 5.30pm with 30% battery life left. this battery life built like a tank. no regret unless the battery life degrade overtime
Macs are “poorly” designed to have limited lifespan, so you will be forced to buy another Mac sooner rather than later. Coincidence? Apple’s decisions to almost always provide insufficient cooling reflect this, so if you must buy a Mac, buying a lower level device which will produce less heat due to its less powerful processor is the best solution: e.g., all in one Macs are particularly stupid buys. I had someone that I know try to sell me an all-in-one whose gorgeous, outrageously expensive screen turned off after a little time of being on because it was overheating. I established that by pointing a powerful fan at the side of the thing’s display, so it would keep it cool. Then, it stayed on longer, but who wants to work with a computer that needs a noisy, powerful fan blowing your hair sideways as it cools the all-in-one Mac. At any rate, the display would turn off after a longer while, so it was useless for working with it all day…
Base 16 – total waste for working on CMS for websites, Canva etc?
Or good for longterm 6+ year longevity and speed?
Find my 13 mbp from 2014 too small and struggles hard now 🥹
Great news for me, a 16″ M1 Pro user! You’re absolutely right too, mate: it has never been the case with MBP’s that the base model is more than sufficient for most users. I whine a lot with tech. This is the first time in my many years of computing that gripes are a non-issue. I’m 100% satisfied and mentally healthier as a result! Thanks for your thoughts!
,I had 13″ for long time mostly connected to 2 7 inch 4k monitor then bought 16” and happy.
Nah, is not heavy. My laptop is 8lbs. You should workout more
Congrats on even being able to get one. Facing a 7 week wait on a business order as there’s not even *one* kept in stock in the entire country with >16GB memory, it’s ****** ridiculous.
